Know More about this tour

Salt mines
Start your day leaving Mirabellplatz with your comfortable coach to visit the 450-year-old Salt mines. The site is located below Obersalzberg, a mountainside complex home to the Eagles Nest, famous for being Hitler's retreat. Walk in miners footsteps while wearing traditional mining outfits as you descend into the grottos. Your guide will tell you fascinating tales and interesting facts about this underground world as you explore. Then, float on the salt lake in a raft with your guide, descending to the mine grotto, before enjoying a train trip around the lake.

Your tour continues to the picturesque Bavarian village of Berchtesgaden. Wander through the charming streets independently before relaxing on the drive back to Salzburg. Enjoy an hour of free time in Mirabellplatz to have lunch at one of the nearby restaurants (own expense) before your next tour.

Austrian Lakes and Mountains

In the afternoon travel by comfortable coach to beautiful Austrian lakes and through mountain landscapes. Experience the breathtaking scenery of one of Austria's most beautiful regions, the Lake District, full of historical landmarks. From afar, see the impressive Fuschl Castle, once the Prince Archbishop's holiday residence and today a luxury hotel.

In the town of St Wolfgang, stop for a visit of the famous winged Gothic altar church. Then, relax at the White Horse Inn Hotel for refreshments (own expense) before enjoying a 25-minute boat ride on Lake Wolfgang to the village of St Gilgen, where Mozart's mother was born. Passing Huttenstein Castle from afar, continue along beautiful Lake Mondsee with your coach before returning to Mirabellplatz.

I wasn’t so keen on the Salt Mine, I think it’s overpriced for the what it is. Everyone else seemed to love it though. The best bit was an opportunity to cool down underground! I enjoyed the journey there more than anything. The mountains and lakes tour on the other hand was fantastic, it was a much smaller tour separate from the Salt Mine tour and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The tour guide was fantastic. I think overall the tours were well organised and it’s nice to have the journey sorted for you.

This was a lovely day out - comprising of two tours. In the morning a lovely drive to the mountains to the Salt Mine and little town of Berchtesgaden. The salt mine was fascinating, a really informative tour, very interesting. The village is pretty and we had a nice lunch at a cafe. Then back to Salzburg before heading out again to more mountains and this time Lake Wolfgang. Lovely scenery, pretty villages, a nice boat trip. And then back to Salzburg. Fantastic.

This was an absolutely outstanding tour. The tour guides, activities and everything were 10/10. It wasn’t boring at any point and had a perfect mixture of activities and rest times, this was the perfect day out and the highlight of my trip around Europe

This was an incredible tour. 10/10 would recommend. We loved the variety of things we were able to see in a day. We live in Arizona, and have visited a LOT of copper mines so seeing a salt mine was very cool. Not to mention it is a salt mine over 500 years old, and they have put a lot of effort into making it an experience. Then, the Lake District portion of the tour offered some of the most amazing views I have ever seen. The tour guides were funny and patient. It was one of my favorite days on our 15 day trip through Austria and the Czech Republic. Now, a word of caution. If you are elderly, or have any kind of issue climbing uphill... There is a portion of this tour where you have to walk up a fairly steep hill to depart St. Wolfgang after the boat ride. One of the older ladies in our group was concerned about this. She did end up making it out by taking it slow and leaning on our guide, but the bus cannot make it down the narrow streets to pick anyone up. Another small note. If you are a person of any kind of size... Like if you are over 5'5" and/or over 150lbs maybe even less... the van ride may be a little uncomfortable. Not unbearable (my husband is 6'5" and neither of us are what I would call petite) and we survived in the front seat, but we were very close to one another throughout the trip. Luckily, we like each other. :) Not a deterrent, but definitely something to point out for anyone who may have concerns about such things. One more note: You also sit on a train that you straddle, when descending into the salt mines. You may share with strangers sitting directly in front of you or behind you with no type of dividers, so if you are a person who is concerned about personal space, you may want to wear your mask in the salt mines.

The guides were very knowledgeable and gave a great history of Salzburg and the surrounding areas. The mountains and lakes are beautiful, you are lucky to have this wonderful scenery in your country!

Top! Absolut sehenswert! Eintrittspreis ist gerechtfertigt! Sehr erlebnisreich für Klein und Groß. Hier lernt man etwas über die gewaltige Salzgewinnung und Bedeutung für die Region. Morderne Präsentationen mit moderner Technik.

Great guide! A relaxed tour with beautiful things to share. Very comfortable experience. Highly recommended. Enough time and breaks to not be rushed.

As others have said, these are 2 different trips. The morning was spent exploring the salt mines on a train, a slide and a raft - great fun! The afternoon trip to lake Wolfgang was beautiful. Quaint little villages and stunning scenery.
