Our personalized tour with ‘The Best of Basque’ was the perfect introduction to this uniquely beautiful land and it’s history. Zach & Irene thoroughly engaged us with their knowledge, experience and love of everything Basque. Our guided evenings through the old streets & ‘Pintxos’ of San Sebastian and Bilbao gave us instant access to the exuberant gastro-culture of these two great cities. So many tasty morsels…& so much fun! We also enjoyed a tailor-made day in La Rioja, meeting artisanal vintners and sampling the region’s glorious wines. Grateful that Zach could curate this delightful adventure for us (and do all the driving as well…) Other highlights included scenic excursions to charming old fishing towns, with stops and walks to several spectacular vistas along the coast. An especially poignant destination for me was the lovely city of Guernica. Our afternoon there was a revelation. We can highly recommend Zach, Irene, and their wonderful team at ‘The Best of Basque’. Their caring attention to our needs and wishes, along with so many valuable recommendations, provided us with the best Basque experience one could hope for.

Fantastic tour with a fantastic guide! We (two adults and two teenage girls) enjoyed it very much. Our guide Irene who is a native Basque is very nice and easy-going and always found the right level of information and pace four our group. We had a wonderful day with great sights and a very friendly guide.

One of the highlights of our trip to Basque Country, Spain was the tour provided by Best of Basque. Zach is an excellent tour guide and host. He was very knowledgeable about the area and its history. He took us to beautiful sights and locations that we would have missed had we done the trip our own. We highly recommend Best of Basque - a memorable experience not to be missed.

We did 2 tours with this group and both were excellent. For this tour, Zack picked us up at our hotel in Bilbao and led us on a full 8 hour tour. Even though it was a cool, rainy day, he made the best of it and we felt we saw everything we needed to see. He’s full of knowledge about Basque culture and history which we really enjoyed learning about. We toured the market and interesting streets of San Sebastián-including the site of the world-famous basque cheesecake (well-deserved). He also took us to a restaurant for lunch in the town of Getaria which is known for grilling whole fish over a charcoal bbq started hours earlier. The town is also the birthplace of Juan Elkano who was the first person to circumnavigate the earth in the late 1400’s.

Zach's heart is in the Basque country and it shows in all he says and does. Zach is personable and engaging. I truly hope to see him and the Basque country again. If we are lucky we might even meet Irene. He drove safely at all times and was incredibly well researched. Zach made the day a seamless event and had taken into account our various requests, for which we were most grateful. I was really looking forward to the day from the day I booked it and it is now part of my fond memories of Spain. An unforgettable day. What a beautiful part of the world. The flysch's were even better than I imagined them to be. Thank you, Zach.

Our private driver and guide was fun, knowledgable and fluent in English, Spanish and Basque. We had 5 tours with them and all were outstanding. Beautiful vehicles and safe drivers. Can’t recommend them enough!

From the first email contact with Zach, we knew we would have an amazing day. Zach was our guide, driver and dined with us for a local lunch. Since we only had one day with the cruise, Zach planned a perfect day for our group of 6 seeing all the highlights of the basque area. This tour has been one of the best of our vacation! Do not hesitate to book with Zach and Irene.

This was the highlight of our week in Spain! Irene was an amazing guide for our drive to San Sebastian from Bilbao. She knew all of the best spots for us to see the beautiful coastline and main attractions - and we definitely went to spots we would not have found on our own. She also made us a lunch reservation at a great restaurant for one of our stops. I HIGHLY recommend booking this tour!

I was born and grew up in Bilbao and moved to the States when I was 17. Coming back with my family and friends, I wanted a way to show them my home and as many highlights as we could. Zach and Irene are the absolute best; they are extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. They have a wide variety of options to explore all of the Basque Country. I was with friends, my teenage kids and their friends. We all loved it. This is the second time that we toured with Zach and Irene and I would love to do it again. They know the hidden gems that are now being discovered as more tourists are exploring the Basque Country. The restaurants they took us to were authentic and delicious! If you want to see the Basque Country, learn about its history and experience its culture this is the way to do it. We did a few of their tours and they were all fantastic!

Wow, wow, wow - what a terrific day we spent with Zach beginning with prompt pickup at our hotel. We conversed non-stop on the way to San Sebastian - Zach was warm, friendly and full of local knowledge and history of the area. Once in San Sebastian we did a lovely walking tour around town, including the market, the coastline, the harbor, city hall (aka former bull fighting arena), beautiful parks, historic buildings and more! Viewed the most beautiful vistas and took great photos of the beach and harbor from the highest peak nearby town. Next stop was lunch at a harborside openair cafe - whole turbot grilled over an charcoal fire with sides of tomato salad, fries and refreshing Txakoli (pronounces Chacoli) white wine, a local favorite - AMAZING! Our ride back to Bilbao was along the coastline road. Around every turn was another lovely beach setting, waves crashing on rocks, surfers trying to catch a wave - much more interesting and memorable than the autoroute. Last stop on our tour was viewing the Flysch in the town of Zumaia - amazing geological formations along the beach which are more than 60 million years old - sensational! Zach made sure our day was informative, relaxing and enjoyable -many thanks!
