Overview

When it comes to Sandboarding in Cape Town, Downhill Adventures was the first and is still the best! OurWorld-Champion equipment and teaching techniques guarantee you will have an exhilarating fun-filled experience in some of the most spectacular sand dune fields in Africa.
Its fast, a blast and easy to learn with Downhill Adventures, the inventors of Sandboarding!
The magnificent Atlantis Dunes field is a perfect spot to Sandboard. Amazing views andwhite sand dunes ranging up to 35 metres (114 feet) make thisa must-do adventure activity while in the Cape, one of the few commercial Sandboarding locations in the world.
Derived from Snowboarding, the sport is popular in areas with desert or coastal sand dunes. Unlike Snowboarding, however, which is largely seasonal, dunes are mostly available all year round.

We booked this excursion with Downhill Adventures. Our guide for the day was James. He was really helpful, explained the day and what we could expect and showed us the sites and local information on our way to the dunes and on the way to the quad biking. We stopped at a lovely farm shop before we set off to get some supplies which are well worth having so you have some snacks and extra drinks that you might need. Drinks were also supplied but with being out in the dunes its always worth having more. The whole day was just amazing. We had so much fun sandboarding on the dunes. I have never done this before and I wasn't totally sure I would do it standing up but we had the best guide to show us what to do which made me feel confident enough. We also did a tandom slide sitting down which was so much fun. We laughed loads, learned how to sandboard and just had a really fun time. This is a really worthwhile activity to do when you are in Cape Town or surrounding. It is tiring walking up the dunes so do be prepared for feeling tired and breathless. But it was totally worth it. James also provided a shade cover which was very much needed as you are in the open elements and it was a very hot day. Suncream before you go is a must! The quadbiking was great fun and we got to try out lots of different paths and routes. It did feel like it went on forever but it was really good fun.We also go to see some great views of Table Mountain from the other side.We had a really great day and can't thank Jams enough for all his care, attention, help and humour. I would highly recommend this to all!

Ruan and Jennifer made this experience the most memorable one for me. I would always book adventure trips with Downhill Adventure every time I am in a CapeTown. The only hitch we had was the weather as I could not spend the scheduled hours sandboarding but the friendliness and the hospitality of Ruan and Jennifer made up for that. I love them so much. Thank you.

I was privileged to be a part of a group who experienced Sandboarding, Quad biking and 4x4ing. Sandboarding is not for sissies, those dunes are a workout to climb. Wax your board, try stand up and wheee off you go! It's a ball of fun sitting 2 on a board. You may fall.. you'll survive the tumble. Just get up and carry on, it's fun! Quad biking was my absolute favourite. I highly recommend it, the quads are easy to drive (accelerate/break and steer!), with a guide to follow behind and in front of the group. Beautiful views of the dunes, the Atlantic sea and Table Mountain. Try not to fall over, the bike will follow. 4x4ing is a breeze in their vehicle, they drive carefuly and with experience. It's a very comfortable drive, we even saw a klipspringer and cobra, a bit of a safari on the way. Thanks guys, I really enjoyed the energy of the team, and I've crossed a few things off my bucket list. Hats off to Bux, Axel and Rafael. Hope to come again! Tips: If the weather in CT is bad, it is most often OK in the Atlantis dune +-40minutes away. If the wind picks up it can get a bit unpleasant. Sand gets absolutely everywhere, wind or no wind! No loos at the moment, there is a welcome centre being built which will open soon, and there is a petrol station with loos 10 minutes drive down the road. Leave the valuables at home. Bring a cap, sunscreen, and camera, wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

The team from downhill adventures offered us an incredible daytrip to the Atlantis dunes near Capetown. We started with Sandboarding what was really funny, but also exhausting because you had to climb up that damn dunes everytime you just slided it down. ;) But you really don't need any experience, I never stood on a sand/snowboard before and managed to stand a few times already. Has been a lot of fun! After that we did the quadbiking - also in the dunes - what's been simply amazing. Racing up and down the dunes, through some tiny paths and drifting in open fields - absolutely worth it!

On Monday i was sandboarding and quadbiking with the Company Downhill Adventures. We started our trip at 10 am and first we saw a lot of the West Coast. At 11 am we arrived and had a lot of fun on the quad bikes. After a lunch and some nice conversations, we did the second part of the combo and drove to the Altantis dunes to do Sandboarding and it was very funny and amusing. It was a nice day with friendly guides and lots of fun! If you are in Cape town, do a trip with downhill adventures :)

On my holiday in Cape Town I really wanted to try the Sandboarding. I'm used to snowboarding in Europe, but in Cape Town I wanted to do this similar sport called sandboarding. I booked a half day of Sandboarding with Downhill Adventures in the dunes of Atlantis. Together with Dan, the guide, who did a great job and a nice group of other tourists I had an amazing experience! The weather was great and sandboarding was a lot of fun and it was very easy to learn it. Also it is done in a area with beautiful views. I highly recommend this activity with Downhill Adventures!

Sandboarding was very nice. It's easy and fun. However, after half an hour, it tends to get boring. Therefore I recommend the quad biking and Sandboarding combo.
