Know More about this tour

After your hotel pickup from Santiago, relax on the 45-minute drive south to Santa Rita winery, located in Alto Jahuel, part of the Maipo Valley winemaking region.

Enter Santa Ritas sculpted grounds, where youll meet your winery guide and group in front of elegant colonial-era buildings. Start your 1-hour tour admiring the vineyards that blanket the Andes foothills.

This estate was among the first to grow European grape varieties in Chile starting in 1880. You'll learn more about the founders and the estate's age-old processes on trips to the fermentation cellars and the bottling plant. Stop by a stone and mortar structure called Bodega 1.

Next, stand before the Doa Paula Restaurant to hear about the 120 Patriots, a battle-fatigued troupe of soldiers, led by rebel and later Chilean head of state Bernardo OHiggins, who were provided refuge at the manor from owner Doa Paula in 1814.

One of the estates most popular wine series, the Santa Rita 120, honors this history, and you get to taste three types of the elegant varietals (cabernet sauvignon, merlot, chardonnay or cabernet franc) at the wine bar. As you sip brilliant ruby red or honey-colored wine, see if you can detect scents of strawberries, cherries or raspberries balanced with a hint of vanilla and other spices.

Before heading back to Santiago, spend your remaining time strolling through the landscaped grounds, or wander through the on-site Andean Museum to see an excellent collection of more than 3,000 pre-Columbian artifacts. Dont forget to browse the wine shop for books, souvenirs, and of course, bottles of wine made at this storied estate to take home.

  • Excellent tour. The winery is really beautiful and charming. Ours guides both in the bus tour and at the winery were great. There is a tasting at the end of the tour and the prices at the local store are very attractive.

  • A viña with Chilean history, with beautiful gardens and a gorgeous Church. My kids and I had a great time, especially testing the wines.

  • Pickup and transfer going out ok. Good, safe driver. Tour was basically good, although it got a little boring hearing about all the praying done to saints, especially since none of the prayers ever seem to have gotten answered. Sometimes the logistics were a bit chaotic or uninformative. The transfer back though was hell - we were taken off of one bus, and put into a small van for return to the hotel. The van sat there for 20 min in the 30 degree heat with some fan on, but still uncomfortable because they couldn't figure out the plans. We were then told we had to get out and wait for another van, and no idea when it was coming. Some walked back to hotels, we took a cab because the two of us were carrying 7 bottles of wine plus other purchases. Don't want to use this service again.

  • Really good visit! I recommended it. The grounds of Santa Rita Winery are beautiful and learning about the various aspects of the wine making process was very interesting and well explained. The rule of the 5 applied here as well, since in our group of about 20 people there was this annoying person from Spain who was trying to compete with the guides, showing off his knowledge about wines during the wine tasting. In such a large group you can almost count with one jerk.
The other thing that I did not like, was the time wasted at the beginning. A very nice bus picked us at 8:30am, full of other tourists going to various VIATOR tours. The bus took us to a central meeting place where people switched to other buses going to various tours. We actually left for the winery one hour later. I was under the impression that I was going to be taken in a private tour, immediately after leaving our hotel, which was not the case.

  • Excellent tour

  • Perfect timing, perfect Winery, and perfect Guide! to my mind half-day tour is even better, you will have full evening to enjoy the city or do something else. Don't forget your card, to buy some perfect wine in the local store, as per my observation prices are almost 20 from Duty Free...

  • I booked this tour based on prior reviews and it was everything that was promised. The winery was beautiful and our winery tour guide spent about 1 1/2 hours with us showing us around and explaining everything at the winery. Our bus guide was also informative on the trip to and from the winery. This tour was great value.

  • Enjoyable excursion. Rather an industrial tourism experience we were an hour in the bus picking up around Santiago before we could set off but worthwhile visit.

  • Best winery tour ever. Gorgeous historical house and grounds, great guide with very good English, excellent lunch in property Café. I wish we had more time to have lunch in the actual restaurant, the menu looked divine. Very nice store as well. The Unesco Heritage Cellar: Wonderful.

  • There was another group doing tastings who had gotten cheese, crackers, etc. We didn't even get different glasses when we switched from white to red wine, we didn't get any water to clean our pallets. The wine was good and we got a souvenir glass. The grounds were also quite pretty.
