Overview

Immerse yourself in British Columbias rugged mountainous beauty on this tour from Vancouver to the natural and historical attractions along the Sea to Sky Highway. Youll visit Shannon Falls, one of the provinces tallest waterfalls, enjoy sweeping views of Howe Sound and the coastal forest on the Sea to Sky Gondola, and go underground at the Britannia Mine Museum. Round-trip hotel transport from select locations is included.

Know More about this tour

Your day trip starts with pickup (from select hotels only) by comfortable coach for the drive north of Vancouver along the Sea to Sky Highway, a stretch of Highway 99 known for its scenic location between Howe Sound and the coastal mountains.

Travel about 36 miles (58 km) along the highway to Shannon Falls Provincial Park, just south of the town of Squamish, passing through the coastal village of Horseshoe Bay along the way. When you reach Shannon Falls, the third-highest waterfall in British Columbia at 1,100 feet (335 meters), take a 10-minute walk through the forest to a lookout deck where you can feel the spray of the gushing waters that fall over the cliffs.

Then head just a couple of minutes up the road to the base of the Sea to Sky Gondola, where a 10-minute ride will take you 2,900 feet (885 meters) above sea level. During the ride, enjoy panoramic views of Howe Sound, Shannon Falls, the mountains and the lush coastal forest. When you get to the top, you have free time to take advantage of whichever amenities you wish: explore two different walking trails that lead to amazing viewpoints; check out the dizzying, 328-foot-long (100-meter) Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge; get a drink or something to eat at the Summit Restaurant and Edge Bar (own expense); or just relax and soak up the views from the Summit Lodge.

Ride the gondola down to your coach to continue your day trip to your last stop, the Britannia Mine Museum, about 10 minutes back down the highway toward Vancouver. Located in the sleepy community of Britannia Beach, the now-defunct copper mine dates back to the late 1800s and is today a museum and National Historic Site.

During your tour of the mine, go panning for gold and ride a mining car into the old mine. Learn about the history and importance of mining in British Columbia through the museums exhibits and underground tour, during which a museum guide will operate your mining car and provide commentary.

Your day trip ends with the drive back to Vancouver.

The sea to sky gondola was closed so instead we went to Grouse mountain. That would have been great except for the rain and cold. The grizzly bears were a nice touch. It was raining too hard for the lumberjack show. The rest of the day was rain free so we got lucky.

Shannon falls was beautiful and the mine was very interesting. I would recommend this tour. Steve was our tour guide and he did a wonderful job

The drive and scenery really made this an awesome day out. Rene was the tour guide. We were picked up promptly from the hotel. The tour mine was fascinating and very informative. We had seen Shannon Falls the previous day and there wasn't much water. It rained the previous night so our second visit meant there was a lot more flowing water. The Gondola (sea to sky) is currently not operational so they gave us Grouse Mountain instead. Grouse Mountain is definitely worth a visit. We added on the Wind of the Eye visit on Grouse Mountain. Rene ensured we had enough time to complete this activity. Overall, money well spent. Good job ,Rene!

Shannon Falls was a beautiful sight. Going up the gondola have you gorgeous views of the glacial mountains. The only part that was just okay was the britannica mine. I didn’t have time to stifle through for treasure but I did get some good pictures. Howe Sound is just amazing:)

We wish we had more time to explore many of the sites we visited but it was great to get a good sense of different areas to explore next time on our own. Also, Kaitlyn, our tour guide was awesome.

An excellent tour from start to finish. Our guide was Joe. The first things he did was ask if anyone was hungry and made an extra stop for us to get a quick breakfast. He was super informative and friendly. Even though we only had a specific amount of time at each stop, we never felt rushed. Shannon falls and the gondola ride are really cool. The mine tour at the end was very informative and fun. It starts with a train ride into the mine, which both my kids loved.

    A Great Day Trip!
We had a day to spend in Vancouver prior to boarding our cruise ship. We had been to Vancouver several times and wanted to visit the surrounding area. Paula was our driver/guide. She was very good with her facts and had a great sense of humor. She is from the Vancouver area and took great pride in sharing her knowledge with us. The Britannia Mine tour was quite interesting as was the visit to the Shannon Falls area. We were able to view Stanley Park, The harbor bridge and get the inside scoop on the elite homes in the area. The best part was the AWESOM gondola ride up the mountain. We enjoyed on our own lunch at the restaurant on top and took tons of photos. The views were spectacular!!! The suspension bridge was beautiful to look at but I didn't dare the walk across it...all though several adventurous people in our group loved it. I highly recommend this tour, However it may not be a good choice for anyone with mobility issues due to some hilly and uneven walking areas. The gondola aides did assist people using canes and walkers.
