Our day started super early at 6am from the Safaga Port. There was a little confusion in finding our driver but once we met up with him we were off on our 3.5 hour journey to Luxor. Once we arrived in town, our tour guide Mohsen jumped into our van with waters for all of us and we were off. We had limited time for the tour because we had to get back to the cruise port in the evening and Mohsen was great about finding out our preferences and adjusting the schedule accordingly. For instance as a group, we decided we really didn’t want to take the time to do the river cruise so he was able to move other stops around so we could see more with our limited time. Mohsen was super knowledgeable about the history and all of the kings and queens of ancient Egypt. It was a LOT of info to take in! It was an amazing experience and I’m so glad we took the time to do it. I didn’t catch our driver’s name, but he was super nice and also sensitive to our worries about getting back to the port in time. He was with us from 6am until he dropped us off around 6:30pm, and he had come from Luxor in the morning and was going back to Luxor that evening so it was a very long day for him! But he was cheery and helpful throughout. It was one of the most amazing days of our cruise!

This was an amazing tour full of life time memories. The tour company, Reflections Travel, selected by VIATOR was an absolutely great choice! It is a three hour journey from Safaga to Luxor. The comfort and safety of you during this trip is of paramount importance. This tour company met it perfectly. We were greeted by a representative, holding a sign with our name, who pleasantly led us to our vehicle. The vehicle was comfortable and spotlessly clean. During our trip, the representative routinely asked us if we wished to have the air conditioner adjusted or if we needed a rest stop. Throughout the tour drive and time in Luxor, our comfort was of utmost concern by the company representatives.

Once we reached Luxor, our guide entered the vehicle. He was pleasant and very informative. Right away he provided us a quick history of Egypt from antiquity to present day. His presentaion was informative and his delivery was factual, no bias. As we asked questions, he was happy to provide answers and thus provided us as much additional information on a topic as we wished. He was simply outstanding. From Karnak, we traveled through the cosmopolitan city area of Luxor, to a boat that crossed the Nile, and to a very nice lunch. After lunch, we proceeded to the Valley of the Kings where our guide provided us with a wealth of information about each tomb and the times of the Pharoh who was buried there. This was very important because the authorities do not allow travel guides to go into the tombs with their customers. Ahmet, our guide, was presenting the information in an interesting and easy manner that allowed us to keep up with all of the information he imparted.

Next we went to a stone cutter factory where we learned the ancient way in which potters cut the stone and formed the urns and pottery in ancient times. It also provided us an opportunity to purchase items from a source which we knew to be authentic, Egyptian crafted items. Finally, we went to the Valley of the Workers instead of the Valley of the Queens. The tour provided us this option and we were pleased that the tour offered this flexibility. Concerned that we did not go to the Valley of the Queens, Ahmet, our Guide, provided us with a wealth of information so that we were familiar with what happened to the Queens when they went into the after life.

The Valley of the Workers was an unexpected trip of amazing insights. The rock remains of the houses used by the workers are still standing. This site provided Ahmet a chance to inform us of the daily life of the workers who built the Tombs in the Valley of the King and Valley of the Queens. We then proceeded into the tomb chambers and were overwhelmed by the preservation of the tombs' art work on the walls. It was in significantly better condition then what we saw in the Tombs of the Pharohs, albeit on a smaller scale. This stop gave us insights into the life of construction worker of antiquity in juxtaposition of the life of a Pharoh. At the end of the tour, we felt so fortunate to have experienced Luxor with Ahmet. He gave us not only wonderful insights into the life of Egypt many thousands of years ago, but also the life of Egyptians today. One of our fun stops was at an ATM machine in a typical Egyptian neighborhood. Wow, my wife and I still smile as we recall our interaction with the Egyptians who were in line with us. This stop further confirmed how nice it was to have our own tour which allowed us to make adjustments during the tour to meet our own individual needs.

Then it was time to return to the ship. Once again, we were pleased that our vehicle was very comfortable and that our drivers were professional, safe drivers. Driving at night through Egyptian roads is an exciting adventure. Our drivers were well up to the task.

This tour was chock full of unique experiences. Like all tours, we saw the highlights of Luxor. However, our guide was exceptional in his ability to relate to us Egypt of the past and Egypt of today. The lengthy rides between Safaga and Luxor put a premium on the need for a comfortable and clean vehicle. The difference in road conditions and driving techniques between Egypt and home demand experienced drivers with commitment to safe driving. All of these were provided during our tour with Reflectiions Travel. We are so glad we booked this tour through VIATOR!

We are very pleased that we selected Reflections Travel for this tour. Our satisfaction began with their prompt responses and quality of information to my e-mails when asking questions about the tour. Then it contninued throughout our experiences while in Egypt. Once we arrived and went ashore, there was a guide who had a sign with our name on it and who very pleasantly welcomed us to Egypt and escorted us to our vehicle. We were immediately impressed by the cleanliness and comfort of our vehicle. During our drive to Luxor, the welcoming representative was friendly. He had limited English skills (the tour guide in Luxor spoke excellent English) but had sufficient proficiency that he made our ride pleasant and allowed the driver to focus on his driving. He was routinely asking us if we needed a rest stop or if the air conditiioning was at a comfortable temperature. This attention to our comfort was very important. The drive from Safaga to Luxor is about three-and-a half hours and if you are taking this tour, you will want to be assured of a touring company that attends to your individual comfort. Another important aspect of the road trip is to select a company that you know has experienced and safe drivers. Driving in Egypt requires a whole different set of driving skills than in North America, Australia, or Europe. We felt very safe in the hands of the Reflections Travel drivers. Once we arrived in Luxor, the guide joined us in the van-his English was perfect. Our first stop was Karnak where our guide assurred us that if we needed a rest stop, one was available there. Also, he advised us that there was a small market there which provided a limited number of items for personal needs. I mention this because it is indicative of the care that Reflections Travel provides their customers. As for the tour and our guide, wow! We visited all of the typical places one expects to see in Luxor. What made this tour special was our guide-Ahmet. He provided us with information in a coherent, detailed manner. The more questions we asked, the greater the detail. Thus, he provided us with all of the necesary information and ensured that we received as much information in as much detail as we wanted. His initial presentation of the history of Egypt included many of the events we had heard about, but were never presented in a coherent, chronological order. He gave us context for these events and also laid a foundation of knowledge that as we toured the monuments and places throughout the day, we could easily place them in the history he had shared with us at the start of the tour. His manner of presentation was easy to follow and pleasant to sit through. I wished that my history teachers had his ability. His sincerity that we understand his country was pervasive in everything he said, but was delivered in a gentle and positive manner. We never felt that his presentations were judgemental. He provided information in a factual, unbiased manner. After touring Karnak, we were satisfied that we received the full history of the place and were given a sense of what the people of the times experienced. After Karnak, we were driven to our boat that would take us across the Nile. Along the way, there were additional sights to see and Ahmet provided us with a wealth of information. It was exciting to drive through the streets of Luxor and see the City of today. The boat ride across the Nile was thrilling. It was an experience that I had wished and hoped for all of my life. Our boat driver even allowed my wife and I to handle the moter, well, for at least a few seconds. When we arrived on the west bank, we took a short walk to lunch and a chance to refresh ourselves. Then, on to The Valley of the Kings. Since guides are not allowed to take you into the tomb chambers, Ahmet (our guide) provided us with complete knowledge of each of the tombs just before we entered. While talking to him about our tour, we learned we could substitute the Valley of the Workers for the Valley of the Queens. It was a bit of a difficult decision, but now we know we made the right one. We opted for the Valley of the Workers and gained some unexpected insights into how the builders of the Kings' tombs lived. We were very pleased that our tour provided us some flexibility in our visit to Luxor. However, Ahmet did provide us with information about the Valley of theQueens since he wanted to be certain that we were provided with information about all of the major sights. Before arriving at the Valley of the Workers, we stopped at a stone factory that demonstrated the ancient way which stone carvings and pottery were created from the quarried rock to a final product. Of course, we were also offered a chance to purchase some wares. At least we knew the origin of our purchases and this added to our satifaction of the products. The Valley of the Workers was an unexpected delight. The stone walls of the bulidings that the workers and their families lived in, still remain. It gave our guide a chance to discuss the daily life of these ancient construction workers. The tomb chambers were absolutely astonishing. The colors were better preserved than the tombs of the Kings, although the chambers were much smaller. If you can, this is a worthy stop for any tour of Luxor. We bid Ahmet good-bye, and then the really exciting part of our journey began. Egyptians have their own way fo driving, especially at night. Fortunately, our drivers were well up to the task and we were safely, and comfortably, returned to our ship. Reflections Travel provided us a day of memories that will enrich our lives. There were many insights into Egypt today and Egypt of the past. Outstanding, professional staff in all aspects of our interaction with them was a hallmark of this company. Our knowledgeable, insightful guide brought ancient times to life and provided us with a sense of present day life for Egyptians. This is a superior tour company worthy of your trust to provide the best possible experience.

Driver and not so English speaking guide took us in an old beat up van on a wonderful adventure! The three hour drive to Luxor was full of amazing sights, like stepping back in time. The Nile Delta was full of photo ops with farmers and their wagons and donkeys, lovely mosques, and wild rides around narrow streets. When we got to Luxor we were assigned to a local guide that was very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English. Our boat ride on the Nile took us to the West Bank for a lovely buffet lunch with lots of local food. It's a long journey, but well worth it!
