Then you enjoy a stroll along the panoramic street that overlooks the canyon and wander through the ghost town that has been used as a movie set on several occasions. We visit one (or more) rupestrian church and typically furnished cave dwellings to get a feel of what life was like for a peasant family here up until the 2nd World War.
There is also the opportunity to visit the medieval and baroque part of the city, the belvedere, to view the citys stunning skyline.
Matera is renowned for its bread and specifically its focaccio so, for lunch we suggest a quick stop for a tasty and filling focaccio!
We next travel to Alberobello where we visit the two old districts of Trulli Aia Piccolo and Monti. You may then choose a wine and/or olive tasting or a quick stop in Polignano a Mare to enjoy the breathtaking view from the terraces upon the cliffs to the blue sparkling sea below. A perfect way to end a magical day out!
