Know More about this tour

The Port of Picton in the Queen Charlotte Sound welcomes cruise ships throughout the season and it is a lovely seaside spot to explore. Just 25 minutes south of Picton, your tour takes you on a scenic journey to enjoy the famous Marlborough wine region.

The most popular highlights of the day are wine tasting, sampling local gourmet treats and the spectacular scenic routes of the Wairau Valley while travelling to and from the most beautiful winery gardens and cellar doors.

Experience gourmet treats of cheese tasting, manuka honey, oils, liqueurs, a refreshing gelato or decadent fudge.  If time allows you can also request a stop at the Omaka Air Museum where you can view Peter Jackson’s amazing displays of his classic aircraft.  The tour can continue and your chauffeur/guide will return in approximately one hour to pick you up from the Air Museum.

Seasonal produce is also available at roadside stalls from December through to February. You can take these aboard but must eat them before you disembark. You can buy juicy strawberries, cherries, apricots, and nectarines.

Although your cruise ship caters well for you, a light tapas or cheese/meat/seafood platter with matching wines is a great way to experience the local cuisine. Your tour guide arranges a picturesque winery garden or a chateau high on a hill with magnificent views for your pleasure.

Generally tours are from 4-5 hours but we keep flexibility in schedules for each ship and cater for passengers comfort and requirements.  You travel in comfortable, small personal vehicles of 6 or 11 seats and will return to your ship at least 2 hours prior to your scheduled departure.

Before leaving Blenheim you can visit the Makana Boutique Chocolate Confections – a treat not to be missed.

For a highlight to end a wonderful day when we arrive back in Picton, why not take advantage of a short 15 minute return drive from the township to the Victoria Domain for high vantage views of Picton Port, Queen Charlotte Sound and your ship.

Your chauffeur/guide is a local owner who has great passion for the Marlborough region, and looks forward to sharing it all with you.

Worry-free Shore Excursion:
We will ensure your excursion ends with ample time for you to return to the Picton port for your ship’s departure.  In the extremely unlikely event your ship has departed, we will arrange for transportation to the next port of call. If your ship is delayed and you are unable to attend to this activity, your money will be refunded. See our terms and conditions for full details.

We had a beautiful day for our Marlborough wine tour. We visited 3 quite different wineries which all produced excellent New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, Pinot Noirs and other varietals. There were wines for everyone's taste buds. Some I loved, some I didn't but I appreciated why the wines were differnt and the ones I didn't like were only because I preferred a different style. The driver was excellent with very good commentary and sense of humour. We stopped for lunch in Havelock and I had very good green mussels. It was a long day with about 3 hours of bus time but I really enjoyed the day,

“Well yet another cruise tour over and here I am finally writing my review Pamela. I am slack I know – January was a long way back now.. It was great to meet you and I am sure I will come up to Marlborough on self drive next time and do it again. Love the wine! Love the food! Your repartee with us all too was terrific and with my special custom requests – how you managed I am in wonder. Thanks more than you could know. Keep up the good work and have a great new season ahead.” John C. Pegasus

Sorry for late review! Our day was made perfect by the great weather when we arrived into Picton. We were excited to try the wine and it did not disappoint. Going home with new favourites. What a busy day, Pamela our tour operator was amazing handling several vehicles and groups prior to departing and she made sure we were all comfortable and found out our special requests and I thought that was very nice. Usually on tours you have to go where they tell you. Fabulous, friendly service. I highly recommend this tour company. A big thank you again Pamela and your team!

This turned out to be a winery tour - but the description made it seem like a scenery/highlight tour with a stop at winery. If you like wineries sign up - otherwise find another tour.

This trip did not start until late in day due to the vague clarity of when it would commence.
The trip itself in theory is very good except too much was tried to be achieved in too short time and not enough time given to savour the wine experience

This tour was very disappointing. We only had one day in Picton and it was wasted. Despite being told to be at the car park within one hour's arrival of our cruise ship, we were left waiting for over an hour and a half with repeated promises that the tour director would arrive within 15 minutes. A driver finally appeared with no passenger list, no itinerary, no headset .. and when we eventually got on the road she drove at breakneck speed which made me feel quite sick bouncing about in the back of the mini bus. The driver suggested that she would drop us off at the Omaka Air Museum but we were nervous that we could be forgotten as she seemed so disorganised. No refund was given, despite returning to Picton halfway through the tour.

Tour company apparently made the decision to reallocate personnel to accommodate an unexpected increase in business from an additional unscheduled cruise ship that day. This resulted in assigning an inexperienced tour driver and guide for the tour we were on even though we were previously scheduled. While waiting to depart the driver had argument in parking lot with another tour company driver and all other driver wanted to do was turn around in that parking space. Notwithstanding this we departed late as our driver was organizing other tours before we could leave. On way to one of the wineries the driver got lost and admitted never driving there before. Stopped for lunch and group was not told we had to pay at counter after the meal. We waited for quite some time before we figured it out on our own delaying us further all while driver was in parking lot. A side excursion to shopping area at request of one traveler was added adding to our delays which overall resulted in tour ending almost two hours late eliminating time to explore Picton as advertised. We had to get on one of the last shuttles back to the ship since we were out of time. During the trip the tour driver/guide did not care about getting back on time and provided snappy response when queried. Subsequent discussion with the tour company owner via numerous emails was to no avail. While I would expect to experience a much better tour in the future, based on the lack of responsibility by the owner for this tour our party of 4 obviously would not use this tour company in the future.
