Know More about this tour

Meet your knowledgeable guide at a central location in Mexico City and climb aboard a comfortable vehicle that takes you into the northern reaches of the city, an area not typically frequented by tourists.

Arrive at the Shrine of Guadalupe, formally known as the Basilica of our Lady of Guadalupe, and with more than 20 million annual visitors, one of the top Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world.

It is said that a manifestation of the Lady appeared to a peasant man on top of nearby Tepeyac Hill in 1531. Learn more from your guide about what happened that led to the miraculous imprinting of her image on the mans tilma, or cloak, and consequently, the shrine being constructed here in her honor.

Two basilicas make up the shrine. Start at Baslica Antigua (Old Basilica) from 1709, a beautiful example of Spanish colonial architecture with Moorish influence and ornate retablos, or devotional paintings. Inside, youll find the tilma with the image of the Virgin on display.

Next, admire the New Basilica, completed in 1976, with a circular floor plan that allows visitors to see the Virgin from any place inside the church. As you watch pilgrims stream into the main aisle, your guide shares the importance of the Virgin in Mexican culture both as a religious and cultural symbol. For some of the older visitors you see, this is a once-in-a-lifetime pilgrimage.

Outside, climb Tepeyac Hill, where the miracle began. Then behind the Old Basilica, stroll through a museum displaying 4,000 pieces of religious art from the 17th century.

Enjoy free time to wander the area or attend mass before your vehicle transports you back to the meeting point in central Mexico City.

  • the transportation good!, the guide so so... Nothing additional of what I read previously.

  • DO NOT book any tours from Amigos Tours! They are the most incompetent and rude company we have ever encountered. We have traveled all over the world and booked a lot of tours from Viator and have never had any problems before. Unfortunately, this vendor should've never been recommended by this website, because they don't meet their quality standards. Viator, please stop recommending Amigos Tours! We booked an English tour which was supposed to go from 3pm - 5pm. First of all, their offices are located inside a youth hostel in a very hard to find street of the historic area, in a very hidden, back room office. Everyone that works there is very rude, unorganized, incompetent and don't even want to talk to you or answer any questions. We came in on time and were rudely kicked out and told to wait in the downstairs youth hostel waiting area, which was dirty and smelled gross. Then, when the tour guide showed up LATE, he didn't even acknowledge us or give us any updates on the tour details. He just sat down and looked at his cell phone. The bus was almost an hour late and the guide didn't even speak English. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt since we had been waiting for over an hour and I spoke Spanish, so I could translate for my family. When we finally got to the shrine it had been almost two hours late and a lot of the church sites and museums were closing. The tour guide was just looking at his cell phone and didn't even know anything about the history or details of the church. He couldn't even answer any of our questions regarding the history, names or dates! Then, to top it all off, we had a small group of 8 people including my family of 4, but he still managed to lose one of the couples that were in our group and didn't even know they were missing until we made him aware of it! We wasted the entire day and missed our dinner reservations that evening, so we just decided to take an Uber back to our hotel, instead of waiting another hour for their bus to pick us up from the shrine, which was late again! PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS TOUR CO. You will regret it!

  • Tour guide was great!

  • We really lucked out with our tour. We, a couple, were the only persons scheduled the day we went. As a result our guide was able to provide us superb attention and did so. It was more like having a conversation, than a tour with all our questions being answered. We were surprised at the immensity of the facilities associated with Our Lady of Guadalupe and the multiple churches on the grounds. There is much more to see than you would expect. It is also beautifully landscaped. There is a plaza that reminded me of Tiananmen Square in size. In December as many as 6 million people have come to this place. Our guide was a young woman and she was wonderful, with excellent English skills. This is an easy tour with time going back and forth and attending a service in the basilica. One note, the climb to the original chapel is at the top of Tepeyac hill and does require some moderate exertion, but it is well maintained stairs and offers beautiful views. There are cheaper ways to see this site, but I feel we received superb service left at 3 p and returned around 6:30, I believe, and overall certainly received our 24 U.S. worth.

This is one of those tours that really depends on one's interest in the site, but as one of the most visited religious pilgrimage sites in the world, certainly worth considering. No regrets here. Missed it on my last trip to Mexico City many years ago and wasn't going to this time. Fotos are allowed everywhere except the original chapel.

  • Luckily it's only me and my wife! guide is awesome! even gave us a chance to attend Sunday mass!

  • Our tour guide was quite knowledgeable and personable. I was a bit hesitant about going on this tour due to being an atheist but the beauty and history of the shrine can be appreciated regardless of the beliefs you hold. take the tour!

  • This was a very nice tour and provided a nice insight on the shrine. The tour itself was a great value for the price and the guide was very friendly.

  • Great tour for the faithful pilgrim as well as the culturally curious traveler. Well worth the visit. Great guide.

  • My tour guide was friendly, well informed, flexible, and spoke English very well. He certainly made my Spanish more passable. Muchos Gracias!

  • I had no idea that the sight is really a campus... there are multiple churches, chapels, sights. I wouls not have otherwise known what to make of it all without the tour. The basilica nuevo is an amazingly prayerful place, as is the burial place of Juan Diego. Can't wait to go back.
