Know More about this tour

Leave Florence by air-conditioned coach and travel south to Siena, passing through the postcard-perfect Tuscan countryside. Travel through the area known as Chianti, admiring the idyllic landscape of verdant green hills punctuated by cypress trees, vineyards and olive groves. After 1.5 hours, stop in the medieval walled city of Siena – Tuscany’s elegantly beautiful second city.

Your first visit is the Basilica of San Domenico, a treasure chest of Renaissance dedicated to St. Catherine of Siena. Head inside the Basilica with your guide and admire its highlights. After marveling at the artwork, continue with your guide on a walking tour of the old town until you reach the Cathedral (exterior visit) and then stroll to one of the city's contrada museums.

The museum is dedicated to information about Siena’s famous contrades, and as you browse the exhibits, your guide will talk to you about their origins. Loosely translated as districts, the contrades have individual legacies of traditions and each one boasts their own flag and anthems. Learn of the contrades’ role during Siena’s legendary Palio horse race, and browse the historical documents on display.

After a break in Piazza del Campo for lunch (own expense), you will reach San Gimignano, a small and world famous walled town located on a hilltop, which remained intact through the centuries, renowned for its tall towers, wonderful frescoes and many other valuable works of art: here we will be led until the heart of the historical center, where to have free time at disposal for its fascinating discovery.
In the evening, crossing the gently Chianti rolling hills, you will arrive to a small and typical Winery where, after a short walk in the ancient vineyards, we will visit the suggestive barrique room and taste 4 fantastic wines, sampling also locally produced zero food miles. Finally, we will stop in the picturesque village of Greve in Chianti, to admire its famous main square flanked by arcades and browse through the local artisan shops, to end a memorable experience in the heart of Tuscany.

  • The tour was very informative and a relaxing, fun day!

  • Had a wonderful day! The tour was very organised and our tour guide Stefanie (sorry if spelt wrong) was great! Got free time in all 3 of the places visited and the walking tour included in Siena was so interesting. The chianti wine tasting topped it all off! Picture perfect setting! Really recommend!

  • A great day trip from Florence. It was a long day and we could easily have skipped the wine tasting at the end - although it was very enjoyable. Our guide was excellent and we appreciated the free time to wander in San Gimignano and Siena - two must see visits.

  • This tour was amazing!

  • The tour was quite well organised, the group quite easy to find, and we only had about 20 of us in our group.
San Gimignano was probably the nicest place we visited, with almost 2hrs free time there. The streets are beautiful, and some lovely views over the hills. Siena was good with the guided tour, the lady was interesting and told us many things about the town which we otherwise would not have known at all. Some people probably would have preferred spare time instead, which was an option anyway. The wine tasting was ok but nothing too exciting. One vineyard with one white, and two reds that we tried, with some salami, cheese and bread and oil. It was nice, but certainly don't get confused in thinking this tour is a winery tour - it only gives you a taste of it.
Overall, depending on what you're after I think it is a good tour, nice to have everything planned and the day is quite varied so it should have a bit of something for everyone.

  • Good

  • Such a great experience!! Our tour guide was not only informative yet funny and witty. Wished we had more time in San Gimignano could have skipped Greve. The view from the bus of the Tuscany region was worth it alone! You have a tour guide in Sienna-- it was worth it! Had some great stories of the city. The wine tasting at the end was excellent... we purchased a couple of wine bottles very reasonably prices at 8 euros and enjoyed the view of the vineyard. Highly recommend it!

  • Would have liked the tour guide to explane what we were seeing as we traveled through the towns. It provided transportation to the 3 round and only 1 tour guide in Siena.

  • This was not what I expected. I opted to take go with the tour guide in Sienna and she spent more than half of the time talking about the horse race event of the town. The museum she showed us was not very exciting. I really wanted to see the Duomo -was very disappointed that this was not included.

  • My mistake for the three stars. I didn't notice signing up for a tour with a guide who addressed a large group in four different languages. Next time a private tour. With that said, Siena and San Gimignano were all that we expected and more. Very scenic for a camera clicking couple. Challenge yourself to see how many towers you can photograph in one photo in San Gimignano. Did find it hard, though, to keep up the pace of the tour guide on the steep inclines in Siena. Especially enjoyed the oldest butcher market in Chianti. The salami samples were delicious.
