Know More about this tour

Leave central Braov by air-conditioned car or minivan and travel north with your guide into the Transylvanian countryside. As you travel, listen to fascinating facts about Romania’s history and admire the passing scenery of rolling hills, age-old villages and pine forests.
After roughly 1.5 hours, arrive at Viscri, a historical village that’s hardly changed in centuries. Discover how Prince Charles owns a property here and visit Viscri church, one of Transylvania’s UNESCO-listed fortified churches.
Built by Saxon colonists in the 1300s, this remarkable sanctuary is encircled by white stone battlements that lend it a fairy tale appearance. Go inside (own expense) with your guide to explore the bastions, covered corridors and church, and learn how the fortifications, an incredible 16 feet (five meters) thick in places, were built to defend against invading Turks.
Continue to the medieval, UNESCO-listed town of Sighioara, one of the best preserved in Europe and the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, the inspiration behind Dracula. Enjoy a walking tour of its jewel-like center to see its 14th-century Clock Tower, Church on the Hill, and Citadel, an atmospheric web of cobbled lanes and crooked walls.
After a little free time to have lunch (own expense) or explore Sighioara independently, travel on to Rupea Fortress, one of Transylvania’s most impressive medieval castles. Built in the 1300s, this hilltop fortress has a lower, middle and upper level, with ramparts and terraces coiling up to the summit.
Head inside (own expense) and inspect the curtain walls and red-roofed towers on a guided tour. See the original 196-foot (60-meter) well, whose water is still drinkable, and learn how Saxon colonists used Rupea as a village in the 1700s, giving it its own market, chapel and meat storerooms.
Having explored here, return to central Braov where your tour ends.
Please note: The order of activities as described above may be subject to change on the day of your tour.

This tour was a great addition to my trip to Brasov. I went on this tour as a solo traveler and my tour guide (Tibi) was great company and always ready to answer my questions. He's been doing this tour for a while and knows a lot of the locals in the areas that are visited on the tour so I had the opportunity for spending with them, trying their delicious bread, and getting a tour of the church.

We had such a wonderful day with Charlie, our guide, who was so friendly, knowledgeable, patient helpful and really a delight to be with. We were lucky that our tour was on Friday so Charlie offered to take us first to a market in Rupea. We got to see an authentic, non-touristy market. From there, we went to the Rupea Fortress which was very interesting and offered beautiful views. Then we drove to the Viscri village - visited the church and Charlie took us to a house of one of the villagers. From there, we drove to the picturesque and beautiful Sighisoara town. I couldn't have asked for a better tour guide and a better tour. All was perfect and well worth the money.

The tour was peaceful and beautiful. The towns we visited were picturesque and full of character. I could see myself coming back to each one and spending somewhere time there. If you’re on a time limit this is a wonderful way to see it all!

My wife and I were delighted during our privately-guided visit to Transylvania, that included Sighisoara, Rupea and Viscri. Our multi-lingual tour guide (Mr. Dan Negoescu) was fun and entertaining, very knowledgeable about the sites and Romania's history as a whole. We learned a lot in this trip and highly recommend it.

Visiting the fortified church. It was full of character and the voices of the past. Wear good sneakers that can grip on rounded cobbles that could be wet.

Had a lovely day out with Charlie. Our first stop was at the small village of Viscri, where we wondered around the village and sat on a bench over looking the Fortified church. From there we went to Sighishora. A lovely little town/village full of culture and history. Charlie is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. We visited the house of Dracula, had coffee in the square and visited the cemetery with the amazing views. Our next and last stop was to Sibiu - a larger more vibrant town. We spent most of our time in the old town, wandering the streets, looking at all the historical buildings. Definitely worth visiting all 3 places which are packed with history and culture. As a solo traveler, I felt very relaxed with Charlie. The booking process with Active Travel was very easy and I didn't need to pay double the per person price even though I was alone. I recommend this trip from start to finish.

My brother and I visited Transylvania primarily on a hiking trip, but also wanted to explore some of the historical sites. This tour was an excellent way to discover some of the unique history of the Transylvanian highlands and see the Feldiora fortress, Viscri, Sighișoara, and the Rupea fortress. Our guide Dan was knowledgeable, entertaining, and had great tunes on the drive. We both really appreciated having someone to show us around the country and learning about both historic Transylvania and its contemporary history. We also loved the impromptu mini-concert Dan put on with a busker by the covered walkway of Sighișoara. There was a lot to see, but we never felt rushed at any point. Overall an amazing experience! Thanks again to Dan and the team at Active Travel.
