A magical place to meet!A beautiful town at the foot of the mountain range of the same name, its unique characteristics have led UNESCO to classify it as a World heritage site. It was even necessary to create a special category for the purpose - that of "cultural landscape" - taking into account its natural riches as well as the historic buildings in the town and mountains. Endowed with luxuriant vegetation, the mountains are part of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. From early times Sintra has been the place of choice for the settlement of various peoples who have passed through the Iberian Peninsula and left traces of their presence, which are now displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Odrinhas, in the outskirts of the town.In the 12th century, Dom Afonso Henriques, the first King of Portugal, captured the Moorish Castle, and his successors later built their holiday residence. Their physiognomy is marked by the two enormous conical chimneys built in the Middle Ages.Much appreciated by kings and nobles as a country resort, and praised by writers and poets like (inevitably) Lord Byron who called it "glorious Eden", Sintra has a wealth of cottages and manor houses, some of which now provide accommodation in the form of country-house tourism. The palaces, too, are outstanding, such as the Pena Palace, built in the Romantic period on one of the mountain peaks, and the 18th century Palace of Seteais, now converted into an elegant hotel, and the Palace of Monserrate, famous for its beautiful gardens with their exotic species that are unique in the country.Sintra's confectionery deserves a special mention, particularly the travesseiros (puff pastes stuffed with a sweet eggy mixture) and the famous cheese-cakes, which according to ancient documents were already being made in the 12th century, and were part of the rent payments.Near Sintra are the beaches (das Maas, Praia Grande, Praia da Adraga), Cabo da Roca (the westernmost point of mainland Europe), Colares (after which a demarcated wine-growing region is named), and the picturesque village of Azenhas do Mar, inset in a cliff.
The Pena National Palace, popularly referred to only as Pena Palace or Pena Castle, is located in the village of Sintra, parish of So Pedro de Penaferrim, municipality of Sintra, in the Lisbon district of Portugal. It represents one of the main expressions of 19th century architectural Romanticism in the world, constituting the first palace of this style in Europe, built about 30 years before the Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria. On July 7, 2007 was elected as one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal. The palace is open for sightseeing, in 2013 had 755 735 visitors which makes it the most visited monumental palace in the country that year. The Pena Palace was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.
Sintra Castle, popularly known as the Moorish Castle, is located in the village of Sintra, parish of So Pedro de Penaferrim, municipality of Sintra, in the Lisbon district of Portugal.Raised on a rocky massif, isolated on one of the summits of the Sintra mountain range, in Extremadura, from the top of its walls, a privileged view of all its rural surroundings extends to the Atlantic Ocean.
The Sintra National Palace, also known as Vila Palace, is located in the parish of So Martinho, in the village of Sintra, Lisbon District, in Portugal. It was one of the Royal Palaces and today is owned by the Portuguese State, which uses it for tourist and cultural purposes. Urban construction began in the 15th century, although an old building from the Muslim era was used.It features features of medieval, Gothic, Manueline, Renaissance and romantic architecture. It is considered an example of organic architecture, a set of bodies apparently separated, but which are part of a whole articulated with each other, through courtyards, stairs, corridors and galleries. The Palace was used by the Portuguese Royal Family practically until the end of the Monarchy, in 1910. It was here that D. Manuel received the news of the discovery of Brazil, it was here that D. Afonso V was born and died, it was here that D. was imprisoned. Alfonso VI, it was here that D. Joo II was made king.In 2008 it was the most visited palace in Portugal with 408 712 visitors.

We loved our driver Antonio. He was engaging and whenever we asked him a question, he always knew the answer. For such a young man, he understood so much about his country and the culture. He made our trip so easy by dropping us at the front door everywhere we went, finding out how we could avoid the long lines, etc. He even brought us to an adorable coffee shop for coffee and pastries. We had a great time and a lot of laughs. I cannot imagine liking anyone more than we liked Antonio. As my friend said to me once we got back to Lisbon from Sintra, "He treated us like we were his parents".

We originally booked a half day trip to Sintra to visit the Palace at Pena. Unfortunately, when we stopped to buy tickets we found out that the workers had declared a strike at 11:00 AM. Rather than waste the day Luis suggested we instead visit Quinta de Regaleria A great save! We ended up booking and visiting the Palace later in the week. Luis was a great guide and host for the day. He arrived right on time to pick us up. He was very knowledgeable about the area and its history, and was engaging the entire time. We almost always book private tours when we travel to make the best use of time. I've never been disappointed with Viator and its tour referrals. ABC and Luis were one of the best. Highly recommend.

I paid $252.36 for a private tour. The driver picked us up and informed us that the entrance tickets were not included in the tour. So I spent another sixty plus dollars for tickets. Then the driver dropped us off at the entrance and said he'd wait here. So we had no private tour. No information on the history of this beautiful place. Then he told us that you couldn't get to the Moorish castle, which we all wanted to see. I found out that you could go to the castle. Very disappointed in this so called Tour.

You are paying for a car service without a tour guide. They will pick you up and bring your where you want to go in Sintra. If you want a Car Service, just use Uber it's a lot cheaper. Don't choose this if you want a tour guide.

This trip was not worth the price at all. We were told we would get a private tour and bottled water, which we did not receive at all. All we got was a car ride there and back. We could have gotten the same car ride for a much cheaper price through other venues. There was no private tour, and our driver did not even tell us about how long the line would have been to see the main attractions. There was not enough time to see everything and we had to run through the palace of Pena to make it back in time. This should be advertised as a driving company, not a tour guide company.
