Know More about this tour

Start your tour near Oppian Hill – one of the famous Seven Hills of Rome -- to enjoy panoramic views of the Colosseum, and then stroll down to it with your guide. As Rome’s premier crowd-drawing site, the Colosseum regularly attracts long entrance lines. Skip them with your priority-access ticket and head straight inside for your small-group tour.

As you walk around the Colosseum’s first and second tiers, your guide will keep you entertained with tales of gladiators, mock sea-battles and executions -- a fascinating insight into the amphitheater's gruesome past. Wander its circumference and learn what it must have been like when the crowds were roaring and the gladiator’s fate was decided by an emperor on a whim.

After exploring the Colosseum, head outside and walk the short distance to the Roman Forum for an up-close look at some of Ancient Rome’s most evocative ruins. See sites like the Temple of Julius Caesar and the intriguing House of the Vestal Virgins, before strolling up Palatine Hill to admire the views of the ruins below. Look down over Nero’s Circus Maximus, where chariot races were once held, and then finish your tour on the Palatine Hill – the most famous of the Seven Hills of Rome.

Upgrade Options:
If you want to explore the Colosseum, and enjoy access to the arena floor, the underground chambers and the third tier, then upgrade! These areas are either newly opened or normally off limits, so by upgrading you’ll experience the Colosseum as few others do. The Upgrade option last 3.5hours.

Walk around the reconstructed arena floor, where the gladiators once fought, and peer down in to the underground chambers below. Then, head below ground to explore them yourself, seeing the pits where lions and tigers were once caged. Your Colosseum experience finishes with a stroll around the third tier where you can enjoy panoramic views into the Colosseum as well as out onto Palatine Hill. Your tour finishes with a visit to the Roman Forum as per the standard tour option.

  • I highly recommend this tour. The tour included The Forum and Palatine Hill, not just The Colosseum. Our tour guide Mari Assunta was absolutely the best. Extremely knowledgeable, took us around, pointed out all the ruins and monuments, explained everything and answered questions. I cannot say enough about her and the tour.

  • Definitely cut the line, a lot. Did not have to wait anywhere. Bravi! We had an upclose thorough tour to the Colosseum and then on to the Forum, Etc. One of the best tours we have been on. We learned a lot. Thank you. Bravi!!

  • It was a great tour. Our tour guide was really knowledgeable and she was helpful and accommodating as I wasn't feeling well that day.

  • Excellent tour!

  • We were disappointed with this tour, especially considering how highly it was rated. The group of 25 is too big, although it is helpful each person is given earphones so you clearly hear the guide. Our guide was not good. She seemed out of touch with what the group wanted to see. She would walk passed exhibits that many of us were stopping to take a look at and then would start talking about other things most of us did not seem interested in. A lot of the participants started sitting down or wandering off and she kept up with the same routine. She hardly addressed the actual games and times, speaking more about what happened to the Colosseum after Rome fell. We all agreed we should have just wanted in the line and done a self-guided tour at our own pace.

  • Viator does an awful job providing the where to meet info. We came from taxi. Their directions had us run around in a circle. we arrrived 2 minutes late and were then yelled at by employees. they said too bad, too late you cannot catch up. they offerred us to wait for the net tour, and then said oh, sorry try waiting and waiting. we then lost our money and took another tour off the street for 20euro. NEVER AGAIN

  • Great tour! Just long enough to see and learn about the different parts of Ancient Rome.

  • It was an excellent, informative tour. Our guide, Francesca, was entertaining and knowledgeable. It was very hot and crowded the day we went but she kept everyone focused and organized. I highly recommend this tour.

  • Davide was an excellent guide who helped the history come alive.

  • Dropped off by taxi right at the spot, thanks to instructions showing where to meet guide.
Tour guide was Hellanna, who was very informative and she really made the tour interesting.
the tour was supposed to last 4 hours, but we did it in 3.
