Know More about this tour

Walk with your guide to Piazza del duomo and after weaving your way through the throngs of street musicians, artists and tourists who congregate in this eclectic square, head straight inside Florence Duomo with your skip-the-line entrance ticket.

In peak times, the entrance lines can exceed two hours, so by pre-booking your priority entrance tickets, you'll ensure that youre spending your time inside this incredible building rather than standing in line!

After explaining the history of the Renaissance dome (known as the cupola) your guide will lead the way straight up its impressive 463-step staircase. Taking roughly 45 minutes, the walk up the steps is not for the faint-hearted! Be prepared for a steep and narrow climb hard work but most definitely worth it. As you ascend through the onion layers, or two shells, of the dome, pass fascinating frescoes from esteemed Renaissance artists like Vasari and Zuccari.

Once at the top, enjoy simply incomparable views over Florence and the Tuscan hills. Walk around the domes balcony to take photos and soak up the sights, while your guide regales you with tales of Filippo Brunellechi, the talented Renaissance architect who created the dome itself.

After spending roughly 30 minutes at the top, start the careful descent back down the stairs. Relax at the bottom, before heading inside the Baptistery to explore with your guide. Your guided tour ends inside the museum.

Helena was informative, upbeat and considerate. We had plenty of time to look around and take in the details of the tour.

Bob (from Dublin) did an excellent job of providing information about the climb and points of interest from the top of the dome view. He also had very detailed information of the items in the Vatican. Wonderful tour!

Great experience. Be prepared for squishy stairwells with lots of tourists! Our tour guide was great and had a wealth of knowledge about the Duomo and its history. Highly recommended.

I am petrified of heights, but this tour was still incredible. The views from the top were amazing and it was so cool to see the inside of the dome so up close. Guido was an awesome tour guide!

Despite the weather at the time of our tour (raining) our experience of the tour was great. A number of things to commend it:

    - True skip the line access
    - access to parts of the Duomo not normally available to tourists
    - walk to the top of the dome! with great views
    - bonus access to the Baptistery which was available to us because of renovations happening at another venue

This was all fantastic. What also really made a huge difference in the tour was our guide Francesca! She provided a wealth of detail and insight not only about the sites we were visiting, but she also provided insights as to the life and times of Florence historically and in the present. That's the type of "presentation" that really makes these historic sites come alive.

What I will also say about Francesca that aside from being personable and well-informed she was also tremendously polite and diplomatic. On our tour was a British couple who insisted on asking a variety of questions too many of which we had already received answers to previously in Francesca's presentation. More egregious were the derogatory comments about the work ethic of Italians and describing Italy as merely a province of Europe. Francesca dealt with this boorish behavior in a far more compassionate way than I felt I would have been able to muster.

    Bravo!

Small group, well organised, knowledgeable guide, hard work but a memorable experience.
Their office was a bit difficult to find, but staff were pleasant given the crowds they had to contend with.

Wow, this was such a great tour and our guide was not only knowledgable about the Duomo but was able to navigate throughout the city from the top of the dome as well. The weather was perfect and the scenery outstanding. So great!

The crowds are the stairs make it a bit claustrophobic and there are a lot of steps but the duomo is fantastic and the close up of the dome and the view from up there is definitely worth it.
