Know More about this tour

Enjoy a 3-hour guided tour through the Pergamon and the New Museum and skip the line at both museums. Your ticket price also includes a Museum Island day pass, valid for all five museums on the island for that day.

The ferocious bombing campaign of WWII and the final Battle of Berlin left the center of the city, including Museum Island, in almost complete ruin. Following the war the area was allocated to East Berlin, which resulted in a stagnant rebuilding process. Only in 1999 was Museum Island awarded UNESCO status, securing its cultural heritage as an architectural and social result of the Ages of Enlightenment & Empire.

This guided museum tour takes you through these different eras to the present state of continual renovation: literally a tour of history in the making. By engaging with the whole of Museum Island, its renowned Prussian architecture, the collection of ancient structures and artifacts, and the contemporary approach to restoration, you will be able to experience the Pergamon and the New Museum in a unique light.

Enjoy an unforgettable tour of Berlin's two finest museums and immerse yourself in history. Some highlights of this tour include The Bust of Nefertiti, Market Gate of Miletus, Ishtar Gate and Byzantine Boy. The Pergamon Altar is currently not on display due to ongoing construction works.

  • Wow! These museums are great, and our guide Michael Dempsey was equal to the task. Michael provided a good balance of background information, identification of important details and critical commentary about the historical context relative to what we found in the museum. There is so much to see in these museums. The guide was helpful getting us through the museums without missing the essential highlights. Michael's commentary was interesting, informative and awe-inspiring. Michael obviously believes that art is best appreciated in context, and he did a good job of communicating this to all of us approximately 15 who were in our group. I recommend this tour not only as a great way to get a half-day overview of highlights, but also as a starting point for a multi-day visit to this museum complex.

  • Michael was our guide at the Pergamon and New Museum skip-the-line. Superb guide, knowledgeable and sensitive to the various civilizations he discussed. He had a unique way of explaining the achievements of older civilizations and how they relate to the present. As the Pergamon itself was a battlefield, he wove its very survival into part of the history we were viewing. I have been to the Pergamon before but Michael made it come to life! Highly recommended the best way to view this world class museum complex.

  • Michael from U.K. was very enthusiastic and really knows his subject- fascinating tour.

  • A few people didn't show up for the tour, so Mike my awesome guide ended up giving be a private tour the entire time! His passion for these museums and history was incredible. I highly recommend this tour and hopefully you'll get him as your guide!

  • We very much enjoyed our guided group tour of the Pergamon and New Museums. The Ishtar Gate is amazing. The bust of Cleopatra is beautiful and equally amazing. We were not able to see the Pergamon alter given construction however were able to obtain photos and literature from the bookstore. Our guide was very knowledgeable as he is an archeologist and one can tell he has a passion for history and actually enjoys giving tours. He was very willing to answer our multiple questions.

  • We had Tarek to take us round and it was great! The museums are vast and he can take you straight to the major exhibits give you a huge amount of information. Not only that but he set everything in context and presented it all in an immensely accessible way! Well worth it and really the only way to cover so much in a limited time including background on the history of the museums themselves and of Berlin. Really something to remember!

  • This was outstanding! Our guide was Mike, exceptional knowledge and passionate about history. Brought history to life.. wished we could have taken him with us through all the museums.. Mike is a guide that enriched our experience ..

  • John knew his stuff and gave our small group a fascinating insight into the history and meanings of the key exhibits we saw on our three hour visit. I can highly recommend this tour - and it really does skip the lines !

  • Very nice tour with lots of things to view. Tour guide was ver friendly .. Yet the Islamic section of pergamon museum isn't part of tour although there are lots to view ..

  • Excellent Tour. Our guide, Michael, was extremely knowledgeable, well prepared and engaging. Many of the exhibits are spectacular and all the more easy to appreciate having been put in context by him. Excellent for those well read in ancient history or simply with a passing interest. This was one of the highlights of our trip and I would strongly recommend it.
