Know More about this tour

With your private guide, head straight inside the Vatican Museums for your intimate tour. If there is anything you particularly want to see, let your guide know. The best thing about having a private guide is that the commentary can be tailored to the things that interest you most: be it art, history or tales of the sometimes-scandalous Vatican popes.

Stroll through Raphaels Rooms as your guide talks about the talented artists who designed masterpieces for the popes. With tales of Renaissance-era rivalries ringing in your ears, continue through the Pinecone Courtyard, Gallery of the Maps and Gallery of the Tapestries, and then step inside the Sistine Chapel.

Home to some of the most influential pieces of Western artwork in the world, the sacred chapel is sure to be a highlight. Stand amid the hushed quiet talking is forbidden and gaze at Michelangelos frescoes of The Creation of Adam, which cloaks the ceiling, and The Last Judgement.

From the chapel, wander through to St peters basilica, the Vaticans iconic late-Renaissance church. Hear more tales of Michelangelo as you view La Piet, and admire Berninis bronze baldachin that frames the papal altar. Then, take a turn around St Peters Square to discover Berninis use of optical illusion at the colonnades.

Your tour then finishes at St. Peters Square.

Additional Info

Confirmation will be received at time of booking

This ticket enables you to skip the long lines, which can take up to two hours, to enter the Vatican Museums. All visitors must pass through metal detectors at the security check point; expect to wait 20-30 minutes to clear security

Tours departing Wednesday: there is the possibility that you will be unable to include St Peter's Basilica and St Peter's Square. This is due to the weekly Papal Audience during which access to St Peter's Basilica could be closed. As an alternative, you will be offered an extended itinerary within the Vatican Museums, which still includes the Sistine Chapel and Raphael's Rooms. If you would prefer a ticket with guaranteed access to St Peter's Basilica and the square, do not select Wednesday as your travel date

On rare occasions, St Peters Basilica closes without notice. If this happens, the full 3-hour tour is spent inside the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. Your guide will notify you if St Peters Basilica is unexpectedly closed upon commencement of the tour. No refunds or discounts will be issued

Wheelchairs can be taken on this tour. If assistance is required, you must provide your own carer

Backpacks, tripods and big umbrellas must be left inside a cloakroom on entering the Vatican Museums. To reduce any disruption for your group, please avoid bringing backpacks on this tour

Francesca was incredibly knowledgeable and so friendly. We enjoyed getting to tour the museum and Sistine Chapel and were amazed at their beauty and the diverse art within them. We ended up being separated from our our guide at the end of the Chapel tour and were not able to locate her. It would be good to have contact information more easily available if that should occur but the tour was one of the highlights of our time in Rome.

Barbara was spectacular. Passionate and knowledgable about Vatican art and symbolism. Pointed out so many details you wouldn't have known by looking at a travel book or following a large tour group. Private is the only way to go. Barbara was the best. She also gave us great suggestions for restaurants all over Rome. Our favorite was Pastifico where you get a pasta and glass of wine for 4 euro!

I splurged on the 3 hour private tour of the Vatican Museums and St Peter’s Basilica. My guide, Anna from City Wonders tours was fantastic! She was extremely knowledgeable about both the art and architecture; the a good command of English and was a good storyteller! I highly recommend her!! Nance V,

This was a private tour for our family of four, and our outstanding tour guide made this experience exceptional. A professor of forensic archaeology, he was extremely knowledgeable, articulate, eloquent and elegant. From him, we learned an enormous amount not just about the general history of the Vatican museums and beautiful art collections, but also about the subtle nuances of many of the famous treasures and the fascinating and funny "inside stories" behind some of them. He gave us a unique perspective into the genesis of many of the pieces and the inspiration and personal idiosyncrasies of the great artists. It was a true pleasure listening to this special guide with his "mini-lectures." We were very fortunate to have him.

What a fantastic tour with our wonderful, knowledgeable and friendly tour guide, Gabriel. I cannot recommend him enough. We have 4 people on the tour, and it made for a personal and intimate tour of a very busy place. Gabriel had very good English and answered all of our questions easily. The pace of our tour was perfect and we fully enjoyed our journey through the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's. Gabriel highly recommend that we walk to the top of St. Peter's and would highly recommend this do any able bodies. Our day with Gabriel was perfect. I cannot recommend this tour enough!

Our guide guide had amazing grasp of the art history of the Vatican Museum. We are able to learn many new things even though we have been to the Museum before. If you enjoy art history this is the tour for you!
