Know More about this tour

Your comprehensive introduction to Venice begins near St Mark’s Square with a two-hour guided walking tour highlighting the city’s important monuments. Follow your guide to the famous piazza and learn the history behind its landmarks, including the Byzantine architectural heritage of St Mark's Basilica and the adjoining prisons of Doge's Palace.

Visit the famed basilica of St Mark's with skip-the-line admission, without having to stand in long queues! At the Scuola di San Marco, learn about the medieval trade schools of Venice that provided the foundations for the great mercantile empire of Venice.

Leaving the crowds behind, enter a labyrinth of narrow passageways, alleys and meandering canals punctuated by delicate bridges as you further explore the enchanting city with your guide. Explore the lively Campo Santa Maria Formosa with its outstanding Gothic palaces, and view Marco Polo's house as well as an old merchant's warehouse and the city’s most beautiful wellhead.

Complete your walking tour near the Rialto Bridge, and enjoy free time before your boat tour of the Grand Canal begins. (Depending on the season, your boat tour will start between 4:30pm and 5:30pm. Your guide will provide details of the exact meeting location and time after the walking tour.)

Next, enjoy a relaxing one-hour cruise along the Grand Canal of Venice via water taxi. Along the way you will learn the history of the stunning palaces and churches that line the famous canal, as well as hear anecdotes about the famous people who have resided on Venice's most important ‘street.’ During the second half of your boat tour, discover the minor canals of Venice and soak up the romantic atmosphere.

Please note: St Mark's Basilica is free of charge to enter and we guarantee that you'll skip any long lines as part of this tour. Venice is subject to flash floods and occasionally the Basilica is closed to the public (without notice) because of high water or festivities.

  • Two quality tours rolled into one. The walking tour is informative and entertaining without being too tiring. The boat tour then takes you around different sites - not just the same views from the water - making this a full and satisfying event.

  • This tour took me to places I've never seen before in the several previous visits to Venice.

  • Excellent tour. Very good way to learn more about Venice and its history. Loved walking around Venice with a tour guide providing rich information about everything and anything Venice. You will get a better understanding of why the city is the way it is and discover a lot of interesting facts about life in Venice. We also got to briefly walk through the Basilica di San Marco and Piazza San Marco, but I seriously found the walk through the streets of Venice more enjoyable. A lot of walking, but its worth it!

  • Our guide was wonderful, she knows Venice inside out and could answer any questions. Would highly recommend this tour.

  • The walking/boat tour was really good. We went through the cathedral which was the most amazing church we have looked at and we have been through many! and then toured through the narrow alleyways that make up the neighbourhoods of Venice. Seeing the neighbourhood where Marco Polo grew up was very interesting. The boat part of the tour was a wonderful contrast to the walking tour. No crowds and a very different view of the city and the islands nearby. We loved all of it.

  • I have used Viator tours on 2 continents, and plan on using them whenever my job requires me to travel to other parts of the world. I often have a limited number of days available, but in order to take in as much historical information of the places that I visit, I have/will continue to use this tour group. Skip the Line: Venice in One Day with the Boat Tour was very informational, and the tour size enabled us to interactive as needed.

  • The tour guide was very knowledgeable but the tour group is a little big and awkward, which is especially difficult in St. Mark's. The boat tour is great, though.

  • The tour guide for the walking tour was great! Very knowledgeable, and humorous. The city itself can be truly appreciated even though you only get to see 3 of the six areas of Venice. on the walking portion. The only issue I had was there was no mention that the walking tour would be separated by 3 hours from the boat tour. Granted killing three hours in Venice is a delight, but it did alter my plans when I was given my boat tour time at check in.

  • Narrated walking tour was very good. Unfortunately--NOT the tour operator's fault--the visit to St Mark's is a corralled, keep-it-moving, one-way, quick walk-through experience. There is no opportunity to mill around inside and enjoy the place. As for the boat ride, gorgeous of course, but the water taxis have limited wide-open viewing and they put nine passengers plus a guide in each taxi. Some people are going to be in the sheltered, covered part of the boat, and viewing opportunity will be awful. Also, the description suggests to me at least a small time interval between the walking tour and the water-taxi trip. In fact, we had to come back nearly five hours later to take the water portion of the tour.

  • GREAT tour guide!! She was a local and knew all the secrets Venice has to offer! The day we had our tour, the city was pretty packed - but she knew all the backalleys and cool corners that gave us a different/greater experience than other tours. Additionally, the boat tour finished off our day with a bang! Awesome views and great commentary to match.
