Know More about this tour

Choose from various departure times when you book. Then, when the time comes, start your skip-the-line walking tour near St Marks Square where your knowledgeable guide will introduce you to the history of Venice and its famous square - the city's social, religious and political hub for centuries.

As you walk around, learn why the first Venetians settled on what were unpropitious marshy islands, and how, through its mercantile wealth, La Serenissima, as it was known, grew to become one of the worlds mightiest maritime powers. Witness the ornate architecture as your guide explains the buildings before you, and then admire the marbled exterior of St Marks Basilica.

Skip the lines at the entrance, and marvel at the opulent interior. Behold the gleaming mosaics and statues and learn why the Basilica is considered a masterpiece of Italian-Byzantine architecture.

Next, set off into the quieter, lesser-known Venice of small canal walkways and campi (squares), unseen by many visitors. See the Querini and Stampalia art museum (exterior only) and discover hidden squares, bridges and loggia-fronted Gothic and Renaissance palaces.

Visit the squares of Santa maria formosa and Santa Marina, and look round the Il Milione courtyards named after Marco Polos Il Milione, the Venetian explorers' personal accounts of his far eastern travels. Wander onto the Marco polo Bridge and see the stone plaque that marks what was once his family house.

After around two hours, walk back to the Grand canal where your tour ends near the Rialto bridge.

Please note: On rare occasions, St Marks Basilica is closed without notice due to religious festivities or high water in Venice.

We took this tour at 11:10am Oct 29 & sorry we can’t recall the guides name. However, she was a fantastic guide with a wealth of information. Very personable and answered all our questions. Highly recommend.

Terrible company to deal with. They never sent our tickets in time for the tour. Awful to deal with. They sent tickets for another time which we couldn’t use because we had another tour booked. They also do not give refunds. We ended up going ourselves and it was cheaper then what they were charging.

.Our guide explained the history of San Marco Basilica and square and surrounding area in an interesting humorous way with little anecdotes that really bought it to all to life.

To be honest, we only signed up for this tour once we saw the huge lines for the basilica. We figured it was worth it just for the skip-the-line tickets -- better to spend two hours on a walking tour than two (or more) hours standing in line. But as it turned out, we're really glad we went. Andrea was a great guide. He was able to keep our small (8-10 people) group easily corralled in the basilica and gave us an informative and interesting tour of it. We spent more time there than I had hoped for. But the real treat was after the basilica, when Andrea got us out of the overcrowded San Marco area and into some of the quieter neighborhoods which had lots to see and discuss. It was a valuable experience we wouldn't have had on our own. He also gave us a great recommendation for dinner, and we had a lovely and memorable meal on our last night in Italy as a result.
