Know More about this tour

Join up with your guide and group at Munich Central Train Station (Hauptbahnhof), and then travel by train and bus (transport costs included) to Dachau concentration camp Memorial Site, just under an hour away.

Outside the town of Dachau, a memorial site stands on the grounds of the former concentration camp. Dachau wasthe first Nazi concentration camp in Germany during the Holocaust, and itwas the originator and training ground for the vast order of brutality that spread over half of Europe in the wake of the armies of the Third Reich, and which ultimately culminated in history's greatest crime.

On this half-day tour, you'll spend around three hours exploring the memorial site with your guide. Tour the exhibition center and former compound, and learn about the history of Dachau, World War II, and the Holocaust. See reconstructed barracks, guard houses, cells, crematorium, and administration headquarters, and take a moment to reflect at the site's memorials.

While each camp was responsible for its own particular form of barbarism, what distinguished Dachau is that almost everything that happened in the system as a whole happened at some level there. Almost every category of victim passed through its Arbeit Macht Frei (Work Sets You Free) gate, including German dissidents, outspoken clergymen, Jehovah's Witnesses, gay men, Jewish people and Polish citizens. Today's memorial site combines the historical authenticity of the original environment and its many surviving buildings with the function of a modern exhibition center. It is a place of memory, of pilgrimage and of education.

After your visit, your guide will accompany you back to Munich, where your tour concludes at the original departure point.

I am lots for words after this tour. Just want to mention that Nikola was an excellent guide, very informative, knowledgeable and experienced. Very organized as well. Thank you, Nikola!

This tour exceeded our expectations. We truly enjoyed our tour guide Geoff. He was very informative without being droll. The tour is emotional, for obvious reasons, but I think it is also a necessary addition to your time in Munich. I would definitely recommend this tour.

No trip to Munich would be complete without a trip to this solemn memorial. Keith's narration of the events, history, and walking in the shoes of a prisoner at Dachau provided great insight. Organization of the trip was excellent. Be prepared for a lot of walking.

Appealing to both emotions and intellect, the tour was undertaken professionally and with a deep sense of history linked up with specific examples. I am so glad we took the tour and experienced what we had read over the past years

All 6 people in our group would recommend this tour! The transportation was very efficient and easy. The length of the tour was perfect (long enough to feel like you didn't miss anything, but not so long to be overwhelming). I feel like I may have read before some concerns of others about not having enough free time in the museum, but they may not have realized that the guide was actually giving you all of the information you would have read on your own as we moved from room to room in the museum, so you're not actually missing anything. Hein was a GREAT tour guide also! He really maximized our time and we all very much enjoyed listening to him - very engaging. We felt like this was the perfect way to experience Dachau!

It is an easy trip by train and then local bus. There is much to see and do. We had an excellent guide who was knowledgeable. There is much to learn and we were with a very good group. There is so much to see we did miss some things that I would have liked to have visited or stayed a little longer in places. It is a "must see" place as an example of one of the camps. Dachau is easy to get to so if you have never been to one of the places, go to this one. It is a very sobering experience regardless of how much you know academically to actually see the living conditions and somewhat experience man's inhumanity to others.

The few hours we spent in Dachau were just enough to see the site. the guide was very informative and allowed a bit of free time to see things at your own pace. Lots of walking, but all on level ground. A very moving place, and a must see.

Our guide, Steve, was a fountain of information. He knew things from survivors that he shared with us and gave us time to wonder through.
