I chose this for my dad and I. We woke up early in Cusco and our travel van took about 3 hours to get there. It was about a group of 16 of us. It took me about 2 hours to reach the top and the last 800 meters are very difficult. You should train for it and might need assistance from coca tea. You can also take a horse but you still need to climb the last 600-800 meters on your own. Only, about half of us could hike it all. The rest paid for the horses. It took me about 50 minutes to return to our van. The locals sell many awesome items. Rainbow Mountain is breathtaking both figuratively and literally. This is a once in a lifetime experience. We stopped for breakfast and for an early dinner at the same place.

Picked up on time at hotel and 3 other tourists joined - 4 in all. Perfect amount to really have an interactive experience with our tour guide, Editte/Edith. She was wonderful! Great English and very patient with all our questions. And as a solo traveler she was always happy to take pictures for me. We fed llamas & alpacas, drove through beautiful scenery, visited a market, saw 2 archaeology sites, had an amazing Peruvian buffet and saw weaving demonstrations. I'm not sure people realize there are so many more archaeology sites than Machu Picchu and all are worth climbing (and just as much work lol). Our small group (Jill, Roy and Leon) were wonderful to be with and it was a lot of fun where I just happened to learn a lot. Oh! Great price as well, well worth it.
