Know More about this tour

After morning pickup from your Te Anau hotel, drive 2.5 hours by mini-coach to Milford Sound. On the way, stop at picturesque Mirror Lakes to take photos and stretch your legs. Throughout your journey, your expert guide provides informative commentary on the regions flora and fauna.

Continue to Fiordland National Park, New Zealands largest national park, which takes up a huge chunk of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Te Wahipounamu region. Arrive at Milford Sound where you join other travelers for a scenic 1.5-hour cruise aboard a boat equipped with large viewing windows, warm indoor seating and ample outdoor decks. Your skipper provides informative commentary as you cruise, and several naturalists can answer questions and help you spot wildlife, such as the penguins, dolphins and seals, that live in these icy waters.

Milford Sound was carved by glaciers in the last ice age, leaving a breathtakingly beautiful swathe of tall mountains and cascading waterfalls. One glimpse of the staggering 5,550-foot-tall (1,692m) Mitre Peak and it's no mystery why the area is considered the Eighth Wonder of the World.

After your cruise, return to your coach for a leisurely ride back to Te Anau, eating lunch and stopping at several gorgeous sites along the way. Your guide determines the itinerary depending on weather and road conditions, making it possible for you to escape the crowds on visits to places such as The Chasm nature trail (near Homer Tunnel), a Milford Sound lookout, Lake Gunn, or the Eglinton Valley.

Your guide returns you to your Te Anau hotel in the late afternoon to end your tour.

  • Fabulous trip would highly recommend.

  • Unfortunately our tour time for Milford Sound with the operator was continually altered. We were advised the day before that the bus had mechanically problems that would be collecting us and we were moved onto another bus coming from Queenstown. Not exactly a small group! Whilst the tour of the sound was excellent the constant changing by the operator was unprofessional.

  • this tour was fabulous, nice and small and personable. 'Peter' our driver for the day was superb, adding extra photo stops in when he had time. The lunch on the boat was pretty poor, but we already expected that and brought a wee bit extra of our own. Overall it was brilliant.

  • Wonderful tour! On our tour, we stopped approximately five times each way at beautiful lakes, waterfalls, and sights. Great guide and commentary. Boat tour was not overcrowded and offered an included lunch (our and #39;s was not a boxed sandwich!). I would highly recommend.

  • No pick up even though confirmed by email night before pickup was organised. Had to wait 1.5 hours and join a large group. Not what we signed up for. Never again

  • The tour guide, Simon, was outstanding. His knowledge and passion matched the unforgettable scenery on the bus journey to Milford. The cruise on the sound was amazing with seal spotting a real bonus.

  • Our driver, Simon, was witty, fun and a wealth of information about the area, the environment, and the geologic development of the sounds. He was great. The bus we rode on from Te Anau to Milford was a little less than ideal. For a road like that, the suspension needed some work. It would sway enough to induce mild nausea and the rear tires would regularly rub in the wheel wells around tight turns or deep dips. I don't think it was unsafe, but a little unsettling. The boat was large enough to accommodate several hundred people, and did. Not at all unsafe, but a little crowded for my liking.

  • Excellent trip. Great bus driver, very knowledgeable and informative about all sites to and from Milford Sound.

  • Such an amazing area, everywhere you look it's stunning

  • The small group was only for a smaller bus ride. We joined the largest Jucy cruise pontoon boat in the harbor, and a paid a premium. Service was wonderful, cruise was beautiful, but understand you are not getting a small group tour on the boat.
