Know More about this tour

Depart from a centrally located Reykjavik pick up point aboard a super jeep — a custom-built SUV complete with monster tires that measure upward of 38 inches (95cm) tall — and travel out of the city in search of the lights’ celestial green glow.

Sitting comfortably in the spacious vehicle, keep your eyes on the sky as your guide hunts for the best spot from which to find the lights. The northern lights, otherwise known as the aurora borealis, are caused by magnetic storms that paint the sky in vibrant shades of green, pink and other colors. Your chance of seeing them depends on certain variables (weather, location, chance), so sightings are never guaranteed, but you can rebook your tour at no extra cost (subject to availability) if you don’t see the lights.

Throughout the evening, you’ll learn all about the lights from your guide, including why Iceland is one of the world’s most accessible places to see the natural spectacle.

Your 4-hour tour concludes with a drop-off back to Reykjavik.

  • There are several northern lights tours to choose from but I thought this experience was excellent. Do not let the higher cost deter you, as this is a small group and you are able to have a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience this phenomenon with personal photos to capture the moment.

  • We were lucky enough to get to see the northern lights on our first try, however, not without a little work! Our drivers were great in communicating with others in the area to find the best stop to view. We made about 3 different stops before getting to see a spectacular display! Money well spent

  • We took the northern lights super jeep tour with arctic adventures. Pick up and drop off is at designated stops - not at your hotel as advertised, so bear in mind that you will have to get back by yourself in the middle of the night. We had 10 people on our jeep and 4 jeeps did the trip together. The drivers work with each other and are in constant contact sharing information. All the pick ups were done by 9pm before we set off. We made two stops around 30 mins out of Reykjavik. The drivers keep you entertained throughout with facts and stories.

We did see the northern lights, although they appeared white to the naked eye - more like a cloud. However, the pictures taken with 'proper' cameras rather than phones clearly showed the bright green colour. We left around 11.30pm so the tour was not really 4 hours.
The hot chocolate and cookies were a welcome treat. The photos taken at the end, all made available the next day, were very much appreciated.

  • This was a spectacular experience. The vehicle was comfortable and could access all areas. We were told at the start that the rating to see the Lights that night was zero but we did see them very clearly. The guide is excellent and the whole tour has a really friendly vibe to it, with the shots and the hot chocolate helping to add to that.

  • We were fortunate to see the Northern Lights! And they danced for us! It was nice that the guide took his camera to take photos of us with the lights in the background! Thanks guys!

  • This tour was awesome because of the lights, however, if you're looking for a lot of information about the lights along the way- this isn't the tour for you. We were picked up and given information about the probability of seeing the lights, but nothing about the lights themselves, why they occur, etc. All of this aside, we were lucky enough to witness the marvel of the northern lights when we got to the spot outside the city away from the light pollution and it was absolutely breathtaking. Do not book a trip to Iceland during lights season without booking at least some kind of tour to see them. To maximize your chances of seeing them, book your tour for the first or second night you are there as these tours get canceled a lot due to weather. Our first booking was canceled, but we were lucky enough to have the rest of the week to try to spot them. We stayed at the lights location for about an hour and a half, they gave us a shot to celebrate, and then we began the journey back to town.

  • I regret having to give this three stars because the people were so nice and I think this would have been worth the money if we had seen the lights. The positives: Great guides. Gisli, in particular, was wonderful and fun. Skilled photographers who will help you with your camera and take photos for you to download later. Hot chocolate and cookies. Off-roading. The guide was even able to take photos of the lights for us when they were visible to the camera, but not the naked eye. Negatives: this was among the most expensive northern lights tours I saw. I paid over 200 for this. It cost more than any other activity I did during my time in Iceland. They let you rebook if you don't see the lights, but only once. And if there aren't any lights either time, that's it. I understand the lights are unpredictable and they need to make money, but given what they charge I think they should either let you rebook more than once or give you a partial refund. Even a 50 refund and I would have been pleased since I could have booked a cheapie tour with someone else for about that much. If you get to see the lights, the personalized, small-group experience they offer is 100 worth the money, but since the lights are a matter of chance, you are betting a lot and losing a lot if you don't get to see the lights. It turned out that my last night there - the one when they refused me a third shot at the lights - was when the lights were in full view and I was extremely disappointed to miss them due to the policy. As wonderful as Gisli was, I wish I had booked with a less expensive company and I could have made more attempts at the lights for the same amount of money.

  • This tour was completely worth the money. We ended up be lucky enough to see the lights on a hillside overlooking a lake.... beautiful! One of the guides took photos that are free to download from the website afterwards. The smaller group made the night so much more intimate and personal.

  • Pick up time we were told to be ready as of 20h, and finally picked up at 21h! Quite some waiting around. Besides this the guide was funny, knowledgeable, and most importantly we saw the Northern Lights! And what a show!!!

  • Very bad. if i wanted to stop just on the left side of the high way i did booked with a cheaper company. It was nothing like we've expected. very very bad!!! Not happy at all after this booking.
