Know More about this tour

Following is a typical itinerary that is planned for our Pompeii tour from Rome.

Our first stop of the tour will be the Pompeii Archaeological Park. Wander the fully-preserved streets of Pompeii on a guided tour. This thriving port town was frozen in time when it was engulfed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. View the death casts of people caught in the eruption and peek into shops, temples, public baths, and maybe even a brothel (if suitable for the group).

Duration: 2 hours

Our next stop will be the cliffside beautiful village of Positano. Following in the footsteps of literary greats like Shelley, Goethe, and Steinbeck, you will be free to explore this little town on foot, sampling its incredible seafood, browsing the fashionable boutiques, or ordering bespoke, handmade sandals.

Duration: 2 hours 40 minutes

After Pompeii, it is time to get back into the bus for one of the most unforgettable drives of your life down the hairpin turns and panoramic vistas of the Amalfi coast. It won’t take long for you to see why this is considered Italy's most scenic drive (although certainly not the easiest to navigate - you will be glad you have a driver!).

My friend and I had Mauro for a fabulous excursion to Pompeii and Sorrento in a small, clean and comfortable van. Mauro was extremely personable and knowledgeable and kept us interested and engaged for the entire trip. He was able to suggest great restaurants in Sorrento and places to shop. At Pompeii he made sure we had Brunella (?), a PhD archeologist who is actively engaged in Pompeii excavations. Her knowledge and friendliness presenting the history of Pompeii was excellent. The 13 hours sped by and the driver, Sandro, got us back to Rome safely and in time. We would definitely ask for Mauro for future tours.

Our Tour Guide Mauro was excellent. He was very good at making everyone feel at ease, giving lots of information en route to our 2 stops. Pompeii (1st stop) was amazing and Brunella the Guide who had been arranged to show us Pompeii was the perfect guide. Extremely personable and knowledgeable- the fact that she is an archeologist really made the information she gave extra special. The downside for me was that we only traveled on to Sorrento (2nd stop) which meant that we hardly saw any of one of the most beautiful coastlines of the world. When booking, the trip was advertised as the Amalfi Coast, so I did expect to visit Positano and Amalfi even if there might not have been time to stop.

An amazing trip to Pompeii! Antonella was our tour guide for most of our journey and was extremely knowledgeable & friendly. Roberto, our driver, was outstanding as well. Transportation was roomy, clean, and comfortable. The sights & stories told from Ilaria, an active archeologist, regarding Pompeii are something I will never forget. FYI, in the winter months the tour stops in Sorrento instead of traveling the Amalfi Coast. Still a great trip regardless!

This tour was a fantastic experience, one that I will never forget. Pompei exceeded what I expected, you could honestly spend hours there just wandering the ancient ruins of a once dominant city. However the tour guide was sure to have the blueprint to see everything Pompei has to offer in the period of time you are there. The Amalfi coast is something special. I had always wanted to see the Amalfi coast, only seeing it on social media or postcards. I was absolutely blown away with what the coast had to offer. You could sit there all day. The hosts were extremely accomodating and even went as far as booking the best restaurant for lunch in Sorrento for the group. Id you’re staying in Rome and have a day, take this tour, you’ll come back with no regrets.

Even though we didn’t go to Amalfi or Positano, the Pompeii tour was well worth it, Hilaria the guide in Pompeii was excellent, and our tour guide Antonella made it a lot of fun, she is a great host, Sorrento is ok but no Amalfi Coast

Very enjoyable trip, well organized, guided by Chiara & Serena who were so willing to share information/knowledge about the history and geography of Italy.

We thoroughly enjoyed our day tour of Pompeii and Sorrento - no Positano, but Sorrento is a lovely little town, with beautiful views and we had a wonderful lunch. There is no doubt that this is a long day but so worth the trip. I would of preferred time for a little souvenir shopping in Pompeii but apparently there was parking issues. Our tour guides were capable and knowledgeable. The coach was clean and very comfortable. I would recommend.

Andrea was our tour guide from Rome to Pompeii and Sorrento and back. He was wonderful and extremely helpful. Great sense of humor, in at least three languages too!! We got see things and take time the bigger bus tours would not. Would highly recommend this tour.

I was very excited to do this tour and I have to say I was a little let down. Firstly, the tour of Pompeii was amazing. Well worth the visit. Our guide there was fantastic - very knowledgable and walked us around the (surprisingly large and well preserved) area. This was definitely the highlight of the tour. Where I was disappointed was that we went to Sorrento, and not Positano. This was explained at the beginning of the tour and upon checking, it was mentioned on the Viator page, but way at the bottom and pretty hidden. No mention of Sorrento it in the description at all. I defintiely take some responsibility for not seeing this, but Positano was 100% the reason I booked this tour. Sorrento was nice, but it wasn't what I was expecting. Very happy Pompeii was such a surprise which became the highlight of a very long day trip.

Worth every penny. The guide, Federico, was so enthusiastic and gave the whole experience a unique, one-to-one touch. Wonderful. Thoroughly recommend.
