  • FIVE STARS PLUS is the rating that we are delighted to give the AFTERNOON portion of the Rome in a Day Tour. The afternoon tour guide, Barbara, was EXCELLENT and so informative. Barbara shared with our group so much of the historical and cultural significance of the Travestere district, the Jewish Ghetto, and Tiberina Island. She highlighted interesting archeological and religious sites. She pointed out unique artifacts and fascinating aspects of this section of Rome. The AFTERNOON portion of the Rome in a Day Tour with our tour guide, Barbara, was highly personalized and one of the best, most enjoyable tours that we have taken.

PLEASE NOTE: The MORNING Vatican Visit portion of the Rome in a Day Tour had a very different tour guide and the rating of only ONE STAR is being extremely generous. This tour guide that we had for the Morning tour to the Vatican, St. Peter's Basilica and Sistine Chapel was not professional in her manner nor in her presentation. She spoke to our entire tour group in a very condescending manner whenever she was asked a question by anyone. She ignored requests by tour participants for her to face our group and talk to us, not away from us, as she was conducting her tour. Yet she just kept on walking facing forward and describing the artwork etc to the few people at the front of our group while most of us were not yet even in the area to see what she was describing.

During the tour, the tour guide refused to adjust the location of her microphone hanging from a lanyard to any location closer to her voice. She even refused to simply hold it in her hand as most of the other tour guides were holding theirs. As a result of her refusal to change the position of the microphone or to face our group when she was speaking, the audio headsets for the tour participants were so full of static and garbled words that tour participants could not hear the descriptions stated by this tour guide during the Morning Vatican Tour. When the tour guide did occasionally turn in our direction as she walked, we all could hear the headsets much more clearly so the issue was the fault of the tour guide and not the equipment.

We also spent quite a while at the beginning of the tour, waiting in line for the tour guide to get the tour tickets at the Vatican Museum which delayed the starting time of our tour. At the end of the Vatican tour, our group was directed by the tour guide to go to the exit. The tour guide did not explain to the tour participants who were going to a restaurant with the Rome in a Day Tour where we should go or how we would be getting to the restaurant. Initially, the tour guide seemed to have no idea where we should go and then she indicated that she was very annoyed that it was her responsibility to take the group to the location where we would meet the driver who would take us to the restaurant. The MORNING VATICAN Tour portion of this Rome in a Day Tour was a huge disappointment. Our entire experience at the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica was ruined by the very poor service provide by the tour guide.
