Know More about this tour

You’ll be picked up at your accommodation and swept off from Reykjavik to the west. First, you'll view Snæfellsjökull volcano, which wears a magnificent crown of ice, the highest peak in this area of Iceland and it is often visible on clear days from Reykjavik. It was here that Jules Verne chose as the entrance to the earth's core in his novel 'Journey to the Center of the Earth'.

Next you'll visit Ytri-Tunga is a charming farm with a nearby beach that is also a popular seal colony. Animal lovers will enjoy seeing the seals cute faces as they sunbathe and play in the surf.

Arnarstapi and Hellnar are located in a lovely coastal area with a natural harbor. Beautiful rock formations decorate the coastline, spotted with green-and-yellow moss, and you can stroll along the cliffs here to take in the refreshing sea air.

Look for Lóndrangar, two black basalt columns marking the coast, so tall they can be seen from the road. Djúpalónssandur is another gorgeous black beach, where the air is filled with the sounds of birds circling the cliffs and the ocean waves hitting the sand.

At Djúpalónssandur, you’ll find a curiosity on the beach: four large, smooth stones. They are “lifting stones,” used to measure the strength of fishermen who once worked and lived all along the coasts here. The biggest one is called Fullsterkur (“Full-Strength”) and weighs 154 kg (340 lbs). If you decide to have a go, be sure to lift with your knees so you don’t hurt your back on this one! The second one is called Hálfsterkur (“Half-Strength”) and weighs 100 kg (220 lbs). The third one is called Hálfdrættingur (“Weakling”) and weighs 54 kg (119 lbs). You were the shame of your village if you could only lift the last stone, Amlóði ("Useless”), at 23 kg (50 lbs). If a fisherman wanted to earn a spot on the fishing boat, he had to be able to lift the "Hálfdrættingur" stone – anything less, and they were not acceptable. Try your strength! Are you ready to join the boats?

At your last stop, Kirkjufell mountain rises out of the green hills, surrounded by trickling rivers. This is one of the most popular photography spots in Iceland, so be sure to get a picture for your own collection.

Don’t miss this opportunity to see the most stunning landscapes in western Iceland.

  • This was billed as a small group tour with a max of 15 people. It was a really small bus, we were pretty cramped, and they exceeded the max number of people on the tour. Also, at some point in the morning, once we were already on the road, the tour guide announced we wouldn't be stopping for food until 3:30 - which is pretty late. Quite a few people were dismayed and wound up stocking up on snack food at the bathroom stop. The lunch was pizza, which we could have found sooner, we didn't have to wait that late for food. The guide was knowledgeable and the tour fun, but the bus was low down and didn't have the views you have from the larger busses.

  • I read many great reviews about this tour so I was expecting something spectacular, but unfortunately the tour didn't live up to my expectation. The guide and driver were super nice, just the sceneries we saw in the tour were not that impressive for me. A bit in a rush because we got many stops.

  • Amazing tour and amazing sights. Driver could have been a little safer but was getting people back to meet their next reservations. They did add a stop of an inactive volcano crater which was awesome of them to do! Long day but completely worth it for the sights we saw!

  • This tour was a dream tour! Antonio was an amazing guide who took us to many gorgeous and stunning sights in Iceland. We even saw so added surprise waterfalls and stops. I was able to walk and climb all over the place and see everything. I would highly recommend this tour 100.

  • We had only 8 people for this tour. The tour guide Antonio of Nice Travel Reykjavik was very informative and enthusiastic. We had several extra stops. The landscape is amazing!

  • Yes, we saw seals, birds, waterfalls, and churning waves crashing against rugged coastlines. We saw a fishing village, heard a macabre story about a local farm and warmed up on soup at a roadside stop. We were in competent hands with our knowledgeable guide and our driver. The trip was a full day immersion in the stunning landscape of Iceland.

  • The entire trip was one fantastic view after another. The guide was great, lots of information shared.

  • Thor was an amazing tour guide. Since he grew up on the Pennisula, he had a deep love and intimate knowledge of the area. we we treated to some extra stops along with ample time to explore each area. This was my favorite tour in Iceland -- the diversity of geology spectacular. Long day but well worth it Plenty of stops, and Thor was extremely punctual, pleasant and informative highly recommend

  • This is my favorite tour, small group only 14 people, don't have to wait long during rest stop. Amazing scenery, great guide, we went to all the places described in the tour. This part of Iceland is incredible, coastline, mountain, waterfall everywhere you look you are in awe,
    it is so beautiful !

  • It's a long day but more than worth it! You get to see the cutest small towns and harbors. The black sand beaches with the arctic water washing ashore is stunning. The guides were fun and full of knowledge. Being in a small group was ideal and we were able to do several different things that aren't normally on the tour or if you went with a bigger tour group.
