Overview

Mostar
The bridge as a witness of ancient times
Mostar, the town that lies on the river Neretva, is the economic, cultural, university, transport and tourist center of Herzegovina. The town was built around the old bridge, dating from 1566, near the former suspension bridge. The bridge is the main symbol of Mostar, one could say its beating heart for centuries. The poet and Nobel Prize winner Ivo Andri wrote From everything a man erects and builds in his life, in my eyes, nothing is better and More valuable than bridges. They are More important than houses, more holy, more general than the temples. They belong and are equal to everyone, useful, always built with a purpose, in the place where the largest number of human needs intersects, more persistent than other buildings and do not serve anything that is secret or evil.

The Blagaj Tekija was built around 1520, with elements of Ottoman architecture and Mediterranean style and is considered a national monument. Blagaj Tekke is a monastery built for the Dervish.

A brilliant driver Tomi took us on the private excursion. He made us feel welcomed gave a lot of history throughout. We over ran and he was accommodating to the times. Could not recommend more.
