South Coast tour.
A day trip along The South Coast of Iceland. In this tour we visit five main attractions in the area. The town Hvolsvllur where we have a layover to freshen up and strech out legs. The next stop is at Seljalandsfoss which is a very beautiful waterfall, it is a great experience to walk behind the waterfall. Also, we stop at Slheimajkull glacier which is a part of Mrdalsjkull glacier. He is 8-11 km long and 1-2 km wide. The glacier is the source of Jkuls on Slheimasandur also sometimes called Flakvsl because of the sulfur smell off it. We then head on to the small town Vk with its beautiful sea shore cliffs and pillars. The best known are calle Reynisdrangar. At Vk we will stop for lunch and enjoy the glorius landscape of this remarkable town.Which is the only town in Iceland without a harbour. Close to Vk is Reynisfjara. A Sea shore with amazing basalt cliff columns as well as a shallow cave in the cliff. At Reynisfjara you can see in distance the southest peninsula of Iceland Dyrhlaey. It also has rock pillars rising out of the sea like trolls who could not get home before sunrise and turned in to giant rocks. Reynisfjara is a black sand beach with dangerous waves, so pleace be careful and follow safety precautions. As we head home we visit the majestic waterfall Skgafoss at Skgar. It is a 60 m high waterfall and 25 m wide. At Skgafoss there is a legend about the Icelandic settler rasi rlfsson. In the story of rasi there is a tale of a treasure chest, which is said to be full of gold. The legend has it that rasi threw the treasure chest in to a cave behind the waterfall. From Skgar we head back to Reykjavk along the South Coast.
