Go behind bars and tour former NC prison that is now Southern Grace Distilleries and learn about the history of the prison and how award winning whiskey is crafted. Even though the prison is now a distillery, thelong dark hallway and abandoned cells will still make me feel unsettled. The structure of the building will still remainasthe character of the old prison. You will still see the old guard tower, basketball courts where prisoners roamed during free time.
A tasting is part of this tour for those 21 and older. Participants 20 years old and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and tickets are required for visitors 2 years of age and older. Your arm bands will be ready when you arrive for the tour. Please try to arrive 5 to 10 minutes ahead of tour time to allow time for mug shots! Present your voucher on arrival to redeem for access and participation on the tour.

This was a very unique tour! We were running late and called to let them know and they held the tour for us, and afterwards the owner of the distillery called me to make sure they'd held the tour for us and that we had a good time! Between that and other things we learned on this tour, Southern Grace is clearly owned and operated by wonderful people! They've also done a wonderful job of setting up their operation in the prison while maintaining the history of the prison! Their moonshine is pretty intense if you're not used to high proof liquor, but the Pink Lemonade moonshine is a really delicious twist! I'd highly recommend this tour!
