Know More about this tour

Make your own way to Splits main promenade to meet your local guide and begin your 4-hour walking tour. Called the Riva, the promenade stretches the entire length of Split Old Town, boasting magnificent views across the harbor.

Follow your guide to the colossal Diocletians Palace in the heart of historical Split. Built by the Roman emperor Diocletian at the turn of the 4th century, the UNESCO-listed imperial residence covers more than 31,000 square meters (334 square feet) and is a popular local hangout. It was also featured in the hit HBO TV series Game of Thrones as the city of Meereen.

As you walk together with your guide through Peristil Square, the palaces former entry hall, hear fascinating stories about Diocletians rags-to-riches life and learn about the palaces history.

Next, continue to Peskarija, a famous fish market located in Split Old Town. Browse the bustling stalls that have provided fresh seafood to the locals for hundreds of years, and take in the sights, smells and sounds as the local tradespeople peddle their wares.

After youve worked up an appetite, head to a local restaurant for a traditional Dalmatian snack. Feast on delicious air-dried smoked meat such as prut, soft sheeps-milk cheese, octopus salad, anchovies and olives, all washed down with a goblet of wine or a gemit (popular Croatian wine spritzer). As you dine, listen to your guide share intriguing facts and details about Splits past and present.

With your appetite sated, your tour concludes back on the Riva promenade. From here, perhaps ask your guide for recommendations on where to indulge in a post-lunch coffee or sweet treat, or ask for directions to anywhere else you would like to go.

  • This tour was amazing!

  • Our guide Lindis very knowledgeable of the history of Diocletian's palace and Split she gave us lots of information. The lunch was an good example of Croatian cuisine with traditional snack is a nice way to finish the tour. I highly recommend this tour. It was an amazing tour.

  • We were lucky ducks as we were the only two on this tour with the very knowledgeable, informative and most helpful and friendly guide, Linda. Split just came alive to us as she described its history and as we meandered around the old town. Finally we had a local snack of cheese, prosciutto etc with a glass of excellent local wine. I would have to say, this was one of the best walking tours we have done and there have been many over the years. Thank you so much Linda - we'll be back!

  • Awesome experience with a great local guide! She knew every inch of the Palace and its history, and even threw in some Game of Thrones references along the way! I highly recommend!

  • Our tour with Maja was brilliant - we were lucky enough to have her all to ourselves which was great. We learned a lot about the history of Split and Diocletians palace - all followed by tasty snack and drink at local restaurant. Would highly recommend this tour.

  • This was an Urban Adventures tour, which we've always found to be excellent and in this case it did not disappoint. Our guide VJ was great! Full of knowledge and great sense of humour. The lunch/snack is also fantastic! Beautiful octopus salad! Would definitely recommend!

  • An excellent tour given by a very friendly and knowledgeable tour guide formerly an archaeologist. Included traditional food and wine/beer in a small out of the way restaurant which we enjoyed so much that we revisited towards the end of our holiday.

  • There was no one better to lead this tour than our guide Maya, who was a former archeologist! The meal at the end was also fabulous and the tour is the perfect amount of time.

  • Fantastic! Well worth doing a tour of the Palace to understand it more and get a feel for the city. Our guide Maya was great, friendly and very knowledgeable. She gave us lots of information. The traditional snack is a nice way to finish the tour but not necessary if you have limited time. I highly recommend this tour.

  • I highly recommend this 3-hour tour. Maya has a wealth of information and the 'snack' at the end of the tour is a large plate full of so many Dalmatian specialties -- it was enough for our dinner! We toured around Diocletian's palace and decided to pay the extra bit to see the basement structure of the palace. We were fortunate enough to be the only 2 people who signed up for the tour, so we got a private one! My only suggestion would be for Maya to focus on a few key pieces of information because it was a lot to take in all at once over the course of 3 hours. But all in all it was great!
