We were picked up at the cruise port along with 5 other people. We asked the man at the information desk where we could find the tour group. He directed us to the location where they usually gathered the people registered for the tour. That is where they were located. There were 7 total taking the rain forest tour. The company also had another tour group in the same area. Once they got us sorted, we headed to the van with our driver Annette. She spent a lot of time giving us a history of the island and pointing out interesting buildings on the drive. Our guide in the rain forest was Captain Jack, Jr. He was knowledgeable about the plants and trees in the rain forest. The disappointing thing is that the rain forest wasn't as tropical as expected. There were no flowers, birds or monkeys. They did say it was the wrong time of he day for the monkey's to be visible. This wasn't a quiet stroll on smooth ground. It required you to go up and down hills with roots and rocks exposed. So be prepared for this type of envionment as we were. The Romney gardens were nice, but small and we didn't get a tour of the garden. The end of the tour was where it varied from the desciption on Viator. We were not offered a 1 or 2 1/2 rain forest walk. Instead there was time allowed for the beach. Others on the tour had booked on other sites and knew about the beach portion. I have to say that Annette was very accommodating for those of us that didn't want to stay at the beach. She took us back to the port and returned to pick up the others later. I would have rated this a 5 if it had been the tour as described on this site. The people providing the tour certainly provided 5 star service.
I got three friends to sign up for this tour and felt responsible, and a bit disappointed. While our guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining on our mountain trek not sure it qualifies as a rainforest, there were concerns: The open-air vehicle that transported us had a loose metal piece on the back that banged loudly throughout the trip. That contributed to not being able to hear anything over the scratchy and inadequate sound system while traveling. Secondly, when we stopped at the plantation, he left off us to venture out on our own, while other guides provided their tour groups details about the history of the plantation and the gardens we were left to eavesdrop on other groups. Finally, while on the mountain hike, our guide took five or more personal cell phone calls, ruining the quiet of the forest and making us wait for him to finish. I mean, really? Not up to Viator's usual standards. We did appreciate that when we were done with the trek, he drove us to the side other side of the island to see where the rich live and stay and to see the great vistas although he did not stop for pictures at the lookout. As for the tour, NOTE: This is not an easy trek. There is plenty of tricky footing, rocks, tree roots, mud, and steep inclines. Wear the proper footwear and only the nimble should participate.
Never received info about where to meet and at what time - I had to call twice.
We were dropped at Romney Manor - no guide for 30 minutes. Would have liked info on location.
Delvin was very knowledgeable and the hike was excellent. I think he spent too much time on personal phone calls.
Fantastic walk through the rainforest. Kelvin our guide was very informative and shared his lifelong knowledge of the rainforest with us. We were lucky enough to see loads of animals and plants including monkeys and hummingbirds. Could have spent a full day with Kelvin hiking
