The first stop is at a viewpoint overlooking Philipsburg and Great Salt Pond, where your knowledgeable guide will tell you why the Dutch and the French came to St Martin, and how they ended up dividing this small island together. At this stop you'll also learn about St Martin's geography.

You'll stop at two forts: Fort Amsterdam in Philipsburg and Fort Louis in Marigot where you'll learn about the battles that have taken place between different nations who were fighting for the island's resources over the centuries. Please be aware that both forts are located on top of hills, visiting them involves a 10 minute uphill walk.

Touching on St Martin's colonial and slavery history you'll visit a former plantation, where you'll also have an iced tea or coffee break with homemade banana bread.

This tour is a great way to get to know the island, to see both the French and Dutch side and learn all about its fascinating local history and current politics. Group size is never more than 6 guests.

*FAQ from cruise ship guests concerning timing:
My ship arrives later than 8 am, can I do a tour with you?
Yes, when making a reservation please let us know what time your ship is scheduled to dock. If its later than 8 am we will adjust the starting time of our tour so well be able to accommodate you.

Will I make it in time to your meeting point?
If your ship is docking half an hour prior to our starting time, then you will make it to our meeting point at Dock Maarten. Usually ships arrive at 8 am, so youll be in time for our 8.30 am start. Sometimes ships dont announce very clearly that you can get off the ship, just proceed to the deck where you can disembark and youll see youll be let go.

Then also: dont worry if the ship is not letting you off immediately. We know the ships in port, we know youre on it, youve paid for your tour, so we wait till you get to our meeting point. Well start the tour when you get there, youll still get the full tour even if youre half an hour late.

Will the tour be back in time for my cruise ship?
We have returned 100% of our cruise ship guests back to the ship on time. We're in business since 2014.

  • The Cruise ship was late, But our tour guide waited for us. He was very nice and polite. Took us around the whole island telling us about the history. I do recommend this tour

  • The tour was fantastic. Our guide , David Botha, was so knowledgeable and very pleasant. He even brought us a snack that was home made. He was seagrape tours through Viator Tours. It could not have been better. We highly recommended it.

  • Very informative, relaxed tour. Highly recommended!

  • Great tour! One of a kind in St. Maarten.

  • Picked up on time. We were the only ones, 4 of us, so felt like a private tour. Got taken to interesting spots and was given lots of interesting facts. Tea/coffee and cake were included and toilet stop along the way. It did rain at one stage and we were given rain ponchos. Really enjoyed this tour:)

  • The tour was very well done, very informative, and Iliya was very knowledgeable. All passengers were picked up at their respective locations, yet no time was lost or wasted. Not only was this tour a good historical overview of St Maarten/St Martin, it was also a good orientation of the island. For those individuals spending several days on the island, recommend taking this tour as soon as possible after your arrival. It will help tremendously.

  • excellent tour guide, small group in minivan. Nice touch of snack in park during tour. See whole island and enjoyed the history.

  • got a good idea of what the island looked like as a whole. good to know the history of it as well. recommend for 1st timers.

  • We had a great experience on our tour. We were picked up on time, and our guide provided a lot of interesting information about the history of the island. We never felt rushed and she allowed us to take as many photos as we wanted. She also provided a snack and regularly offered us water if we needed it. One regret is that we did not get to take a photo of the statues depicting the salt trade that were in the center of town. I am thinking it may have been because the statues are in the middle of a traffic circle which would make it tricky to stop and take a photo. We would definitely recommend this tour. It may be best to plan it for the beginning of the week because there were less cruise boats so that our stops were not as crowded.

  • Very informative!
