Itinerary
We'll embark on a little known and spectacular ridge hike that starts from the top of the Banff Gondola. It's a fantastic way to combine the Banff Gondola experience with something a little more adventurous!
First, we'll meet at our office before taking the Banff Gondola to the ridge top of Sulphur mountain. After taking in the views, we'll step off the beaten path and begin our hike. As we make our way along the ridge, we'll transition from tree line to alpine hiking terrain, through subalpine forests, limestone slabs and high mountain scree slopes. The views are astounding and keep getting better as we go further - you can see the Sundance range, the high peaks of Lake Louise, Mt Assiniboine, and.the town of Banff far below.
When we get back to the Gondola station, you will be free to enjoy all the amenities of this state-of-the-art facility, including mountaintop dining and a great interpretive center.

Traveler Reviews

We are experienced hikers who decided to go on a guided hike for ease, adventure, and potentially to meet some friendly people. Laura was an excellent guide, and everyone in the group got on great. But, overall, I don't know that the views of this hike are any more spectacular than other hikes you might experience in Banff. The only reason I say that is because there is a section of trail that several people would, and should, find intimidating. The path narrows down to the width of your shoe (yes, one shoe), and eventually, you have to turn with your belly against the rocks and shuffle your way across an exposed rock face. As you near the end of this section, there is a large rock you need to maneuver around, again, with very minimal footing. And absolutely nothing is protecting you from a fall. So the "family-friendly" description of this hike is up for debate. Unfortunately, two people in our group felt this exceeded their comfort level and had to stay back while we moved on. The only other note I would add is for the admin team who sends the details out to the hikers. If/when plans change, it is probably best to call with the updated info. When people are traveling to their destination, email might not be the most efficient way to communicate. I wrote this review to give hikers a realistic expectation of the hike, not to discourage anyone from going. We felt the original description lacked this detail, and honestly, if any of us had known this, we wouldn't have picked this hike. However, if you are less risk-averse and love a challenge, the guides will ensure you have a great experience.

We had a fantastic experience on the ridge line walk today. We were pushed out of our comfort zones as we hiked, scrambled and climbed up to the peak of Sulphur Mountain and then made it back just before the rain! Our guide Christian made us feel safe as he kept challenging us to go a little bit beyond what we thought we could do. The views were amazing from the peak and so worth it! We are feeling proud of ourselves and have to give a huge thank you to Christian for making it such a good experience :)

Great tour, worth to spend time to enjoy the beautiful view from the summit of Sulphur Mountain. The guide Jeff did a great job!

Our hike/climb was amazing. We experienced mountain peaks that we didn’t think were possible. Jeff was our guide and he went far above and beyond our expectations for the trip. He was amazing and the views were phenomenal!

I was lucky to have a private tour and spent a full day walking the summits. The views are amazing and also got to see some big horned sheep.

I highly recommend this guided hike! We were able to experience the beauty of the mountains in way that we would never have been able to do on our own. It is UNBELIEVABLY gorgeous- a must do!! Our guide, Jeff, is very professional and came prepared with everything we needed - hiking poles, ice axes (it snowed just before our hike), a fabulous lunch, and even a couple spare hiking jackets for those of us who over-dressed and needed something more appropriate to wear. The hike itself was challenging/adventurous, but still very manageable for the inexperienced. When we remember our trip to Banff - this will be the day we remember the best:)

My family did the ridge line hike with Jeff, and it was the coolest thing we’ve ever done on vacation. 5 isn’t high enough a rating. The views are ridiculous. The hike is a challenge, but manageable. I can’t recommend this enough.

Superbe promenade. Ça grimpe bien mais le chemin est bien entretenu et bien ombragé. La vue au sommet est fabuleuse. Pas besoin de payer le prix exorbitant de la gondole. À pied ce n’est que du bonheur. À faire par beau temps.
