Know More about this tour

What better way to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Switzerland and the Alps year-round than a ride on the Bernina Express? Known as the ‘Little Red Train,’ the Bernina Express was built more than 100 years ago to scale the majestic mountain landscapes of the Swiss Alps. This historical feat of engineering still climbs up the 7,330-foot (2,235-meter) high Bernina Pass along a UNESCO World Heritage-listed route.
Depart by comfortable coach from Milan at 7am and enjoy a scenic bus tour to the Swiss town of Tirano, situated at the foothills of the Alps. Pass mountain streams and forested hills against a backdrop of steep, snow-capped peaks. When you arrive in Tirano at approximately 10:30am, you’ll have free time to explore before boarding the train.
Your rail journey starts amid the palms and oleanders of northern Italy, taking you over the spiraling viaduct at Brusio and through the Bernina Pass into Engadin, arriving in St Moritz 2.5 hours later. Along the way you'll pass wild gorges and icy glaciers, cross soaring bridges and shoot through loop tunnels.
This north-south alpine crossing offers eye-catching vistas of stunning scenery from your rail car. Capture photographic views of the Alps and its glacial lakes, and look out your window to watch the bright red train curve against a snow-speckled landscape (if traveling in winter). You’ll see impressive alpine valleys, lakes and waterfalls at almost every turn!
When you arrive at the exclusive resort of St Moritz, disembark and spend about 1.5 hours in town. Flanking the shore of a beautiful lake in the middle of the Upper Engadin, St Mortiz offers an array of attractions and is famous for its winter sports as well as polo, golf, cricket and tennis. Set out on foot to discover the town’s elegance, perhaps stopping for lunch (own expense) or visiting a chocolatier before departing by coach at 4:30pm and arriving in Milan around 7:30pm.

  • An incredible day trip to the Alps. Highly recommended if you have a full day spare when in Milan!

The coach arrangement was a bit chaotic so I'd recommend you arrive way before 6:45am - we were initially told that we could get on either coach for English commentary but then were told to get off and move to a different coach as only Spanish would be spoken in the original coach. Thank goodness there were still good seats left in the second coach.

Lunch wasn't included and we had to pay 17 for that, and the quality was mediocre.

The Bernina Express journey was amazing. It lasted 2 hours and it was worth every penny. However, they only arranged 1 coach of the train for the tour, so they only have just enough seats for everyone. It turned out to be a bit chaotic with seat arrangements so I'd advise you to be ahead of the game and secure yourselves a good window seat to take amazing pictures!

  • The tour was great. The only thing is we ended in St Moritz where there are no place to buy souvenirs. The place is full of store of brand name product which is so expensive. The scenery was amazing. Going back is spectacular, going thru the winding road. The driver and the tour quide is great too. Thank you for the great experience

  • The train ride was amazing, but the coach ride back to Milan was 3 hours! Read the fine print!

  • A superb day out. Excellent organisation with informative and friendly guides. Nothing is rushed and lunch is very good and the journey back by coach is very comfortable indeed. I could not recommend more.

  • Excellent day trip to the Swiss Alps via Bernina Express and the bus ride back to Milan.

  • Wonderful day

  • Amazing experience! Try it!

  • The beautiful scenes on board the Bernina Express are really a must, but the time spent before boarding in Tirano is too much and the time in St Moritz is really short even for a little walk and pictures

  • Amazing! Highly recommended

  • The views were breathtaking along the train routes, even though the weather was not ideal, ie cloudy with light showers.. But the stop in the St Moritz I think was too short, should allow a minimum of two hours there. I suggest if we could take earlier train in the future
