Know More about this tour

What better way to enjoy the breathtaking scenery of Switzerland and the Alps year-round than a ride on the Bernina Express? Known as the Little Red Train, the Bernina Express was built more than 100 years ago to scale the majestic mountain landscapes of the Swiss Alps. This historical feat of engineering still climbs up the 7,330-foot (2,235-meter) high Bernina Pass along a UNESCO World Heritage-listed route.
Depart by comfortable coach from Milan at 7am and enjoy a scenic bus tour to the Swiss town of Tirano, situated at the foothills of the Alps. Pass mountain streams and forested hills against a backdrop of steep, snow-capped peaks. When you arrive in Tirano at approximately 10:30am, youll have free time to explore before boarding the train.
Your rail journey starts amid the palms and oleanders of northern Italy, taking you over the spiraling viaduct at Brusio and through the Bernina Pass into Engadin, arriving in St Moritz 2.5 hours later. Along the way you'll pass wild gorges and icy glaciers, cross soaring bridges and shoot through loop tunnels.
This north-south alpine crossing offers eye-catching vistas of stunning scenery from your rail car. Capture photographic views of the Alps and its glacial lakes, and look out your window to watch the bright red train curve against a snow-speckled landscape (if traveling in winter). Youll see impressive alpine valleys, lakes and waterfalls at almost every turn!
When you arrive at the exclusive resort of St Moritz, disembark and spend about 1.5 hours in town. Flanking the shore of a beautiful lake in the middle of the Upper Engadin, St Mortiz offers an array of attractions and is famous for its winter sports as well as polo, golf, cricket and tennis. Set out on foot to discover the towns elegance, perhaps stopping for lunch (own expense) or visiting a chocolatier before departing by coach at 4:30pm and arriving in Milan around 7:30pm.

  • Beautiful trip. Beautiful sights. Long day, but well worth it. Description of tour is what was experienced. Return trip to Milan was after dark winter. Driver had to put chains on tires to navigate steep decline down mountain pass. Very good driver. Made it safely but recommend, at least in winter, that return trip be by train which is probably faster and safer. Tour guide was very good. Nothing extraordinary but just enough to keep us well informed without boring us with unnecessary detail. Overall satisfied and would recommend trip if you dont mind very long day.

  • Highly recommend this tour! Incredible scenery, very organised and well set out plan

  • What a fantastic day trip this was. Stopping in Tirano and walking through this beautiful quaint town was awesome. The train ride up the Alps was great and should not be missed. Just wished we had more time in St Moritz. Coming back down from St Moritz was a challenge, but the driver was an excellent navigator as those turns down the mountain were somewhat treacherous.

  • Weather conditions did not allow the tour to reach St. Moritz. We were not given an option to cancel for a full refund. The bus left the meeting place before we were told we were not going the full distance on the Bernina Express. The trip was really bad. Got off the train in a town where nothing was open nor was there anything to see. The town of Torino was used as a time filler. Again, all the stores were closed when we were there. We were offered a prefix lunch at a particular restaurant because other eating establishments were closed.
It was a long, terrible excursion.

  • A must go and must try experience. The snow and views of the Alps is worth every penny spent.

  • The whole experience was amazing from the start to the finish! Our guide was exceptional from the start to the finish! Knowledgable and fun making all of us wish the evening would not end! A tour not to be missed!

  • Beautiful trip! Very scenic with spectacular cliffs and waterfalls. A very long day about 14 hours, so be prepared. But well worth it! The staff was knowledgeable, helpful and organized. The train ride was the best!

  • The local company, Zani Viaggi, made the wrong decision. They started the tour knowing that some of the roads are closed without telling anybody. In the result we've got only 1/3 of the tour. We didn't saw anything really beautiful cuz we only went 3 train stops up. Besides, we went back with the same round. So we lost a day. Besides, we could do all the same things 2-3 times cheaper in comfort of a train. There is one from Milan to Tirano there aren't one to St. Moritz but we never get there anyway.

  • This tour was a long one but gave me a chance to see snow for the first time. What a great time we had. Scenery was amazing and stops made along the long ride.
Our tour guide, Francesca was delightful and gave us lots of information along the way.
The stop at St Moritz was fun.

  • The Bernini train ride up the Swiss alps was awesome and beautiful almost as if you are in a movie. Would recommend the tour although the stop at st Moritz was far too rushed and short. The stop at Torino could have been shorter and also would not recommend the lunch place at Torino. The tour guide serena and bus driver Marco were fantastic.... Gracie for a fantastic memorable trip and tour up the Swiss alps especially for my family
