Overview

Sydney's pub scene calls two things to mind - historic (but stuffy) pubs of The rocks district, or the out-of-control nightclubs that required so-called "lockout laws" to be reigned in.
Between these two categories is a third, lesser known one hidden bars. Throughout the CBD are places best kept secret, where only the whispers of a local who is in the know will get you there.
Uncover the bars that require a descent of a long wrought-iron spiral staircase into a cavernous basement. Find bars tucked away in nondescript shopping centres that reveal secret opium dens. Meet craft cocktail makers who will use fire and liquid nitrogen to concoct the perfect drink.
Join us on this three-hour adventure, and whatever you do, help us keep these bars secret!

Know More about this tour

Start your tourat a public meeting point where you'll meet your friendly, local, English-speaking tour guide and your travel companions. After some introductions and housekeeping, we'll start a brief walk down to the first bar.
Sydney's bars are filled with character, andthis small group tour promises to take you to four of them. Which bars? We can't tell you, because we don't know ourselves. Your guide will tailor the itinerary to the group size, dynamic and time of year.
Wintertime? We'll try to find a cozy, warm spot with mulled wine. Hot summer's day? We'll bring you a waterside watering hole or rooftop bar.
By design, we don't set a firm itinerary on this tour, as we want to bring you to the freshest speakeasies in Sydney. Here are some examples of bars you might discover:
A classic Aussie pub. Throw back a schooner or midi, heres where youll learn about the standard pour sizes ofNew South Whalesbeers and how beer affected the lives of the earliest European Sydneysiders
A cocktail bar.Sydney has some of the best mixologists around, but most of them are hidden in tiny, hidden cocktail bars that survive on word of mouth alone. Visit a speakeasy-style bar and learn about how Sydney is soon to eclipse Melbourne as Australia's hottest bar scene
A wine bar. With the Hunter Valleyjust a stones throw away, it would be a sin not to taste some of the delectable wines in the region. Learn how wine shaped Australias history and how to taste wine like a member of the social elite.
Guides choice!Sydney's bar scene is ever-changing, so depending on the groups desires, the weather, and what is trendy inSydney at that particular moment, theres no telling where well end up
Occasionally, we will go to a bar where no seats are available. Such is theside-effect of going to bars so cool they won't take reservations. No worries though your expert guidehas a choice of dozens of city centre bars to help you discover the best parts of the city.

This was a great tour. We loved our tour guide Ash and was a great tour to find our way around the city. I definitely recommend this.

We had a wonderful tour with Bron and Mike. They were both very knowledgeable about the history of the pubs and of Sydney. Three of the four pubs that were chosen were great, but the last one was very loud and we couldnt hear anything. We would do this tour again. Thanks for a great time

    Very Good

Guide made it very plain he did not like the British. No history about Captain Cooke or Ned Kelly.

  • 15-Jan-2017

We loved our pub crawl tour! Our guide was very knowledgable and we learned so much about the history of the city in a very enjoyable format. The four pubs were all fun to visit and had interesting history that we wouldn't have known about otherwise. GREAT way to spend a free evening in Sydney.

    Guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic.
It was a little too long between pubs for our attention span.
Guide walked too fast for some of the older woman in the group.
Overall, I loved seeing the historic buildings and areas of The Rocks that I would never have seen on my own.

Our guide, John was wonderful!! It is a lot of walking though, so be prepared. The pubs and history you will visit and learn about, are well worth the walk.

  • 03-Jul-2016

The historic pub crawl was fantastic! John really knows his stuff. From learning all the stories of Sydney town and it and #39;s iconic pubs from it and #39;s early colonial days to modern times. Very insightful with a lot of eye openers and wow moments. Highly recommend, the pit stop beers only make it better!
