Departing from St James Railway Station entrance on Elizabeth St and Market St, Sydney, your first stop is Macquarie Street.

Macquarie St

  • Move onto Macquarie St with its old sandstone buildings including Queens Square and St James Church which could have been a court house, now there is a story.  
  • Moving on, visit the Parliament, the Mint, Eye Hospital and State Library. Some of these buildings were built by convict architect Francis Greenway.
  • A quick trip into the NSW Parliament is on the cards and very interesting.
Royal Botanical Gardens
  • Leave Macquarie St to enter the Royal Botanical gardens with it superb views of Port Jackson.
  • The tour passes Government House prior to arriving at the restaurant
  • Work your way through the gardens to Man O' War steps alongside the Sydney Opera House via the harbour foreshore.
Sydney Opera House
  • Upon arriving at the Sydney Opera House a quick climb up the steps under the sails reveals a beautiful panorama of Circular Quay, Sydney Cove, The Rocks and the Harbour Bridge. This is a great spot for photographs.
The Rocks
  • Moving on around Circular Quay, enter the Rocks and investigate its narrow streets and secret alleyways with their treasures from the earliest days of Australia.
  • Whaling, thieves, gangs, the plage, prostitution are all part of Sydneys past. Here is where it all happened after 1788.
  • Visit the observatory named after a Marine officer, stand on the guns as you look over the gorgeous Sydney Harbour.
  • Walk under the bridge pylons as you make your way back to Circular Quay past the International Terminal. There may be a food market operating, the tourist shops will certainly be open.

  • This is a fantastic tour for anyone who wants to enjoy the charm and history of Sydney as well as improving your photography skills. Ken is incredibly knowledgeable about the city and its many intriguing sites. I thoroughly enjoyed learning as we walked through many interesting locations, beautiful buildings and monuments. He gave me a lot of great pointers for getting better images and I had a great time walking and talking with him. Even residents of Sydney will enjoy many of the overlooked places we wandered through. I highly recommend this tour.

  • Ken gave great photography advice and critique on my images my starting point was a good technical ability but I confessed a lack of experience with composition and creativity. To address this Ken provided around a dozen photography challenges to me in different situations to improve my composition each challenge involved difficulties in perspective, depth of field, leading lines, dynamic range, foreground interest, etcetera. A very useful learning experience. The photos I took away after three and a half hour are not touristic shots but indeed I feel I learned quite a bit as a photographer.

  • This is a marvellous tour for anyone who wants to combine a little exercise with a learning experience. I met guide Ken right on time and we immediately started to talk about photography with tips, principles and key points to remember. I particularly enjoyed learning both about photography and about Sydney history, both topics being of deep interest to Ken. He is easy to talk to, never judged about the level of knowledge I have and welcomed questions. The geographical area covered is not extensive but we saw a lot around Circular Quay and The Rocks. The three hours is jam packed with information. I'm already starting to think about the next tour I'd like to do!

    You are a marvellous guide and your breadth of knowledge makes the tour so rich with information, it's fabulous.

  • The photography tour of Sydney's hidden gems with Ken Hall was just what I was looking for. Mr. Hall was an excellent photography teacher with his patience and willingness to share his knowledge of the area and on photography. My queries would jump from topics on photography: camera features, lighting, composition etc., to history and he was always ready with an answer and help. Highly recommend this tour.
