In between delicous food stops explore the Born neighborhood. One of Barcelona's most iconic, we know it's on your list to visit anyway—best to do it with an expert. Your guide will share our favorite neighborhood haunts and stories with you.
Start your morning at the Santa Caterina Market, a local favorite where the stalls have been family-run institutions for decades! You’ll weave in and out of locals doing their shopping as you learn about their daily customs and traditions.
While in the market stop to sample a variety of local Spanish cheese.
Then, of course, try some local cured meats—including jamón ibérico!
We'll head to one of the market's most-loved bars. Open since the 1980s, this is where locals stop for breakfast and lunch while shopping—and that's exactly what we're here to do! You'll enjoy a glass of sparkling cava (the true Catalan way to start the day!) paired with next-level sandwiches featuring treats such as spinach tortilla and spicy Mallorcan sausage.
Pass through one of the Born neighborhood's iconic historic squares.
We'll visit one of Barcelona's most loved bakeries to try their surprising speciality -- a delicious filled croissant!
Our next food stop is one of Barcelona’s oldest specialty shops—one of the last of its kind, in fact! Here you’ll taste a variety of the shop’s star products.
As you are exploring the Born neighbourhood stop see this Catalan Gothic church.
Explore Barcelona's famous fisherman's neighbourhood where your guide will highlight some of the neighborhood's most interesting corners.
Pass through one of Barceloneta's local squares.
After a morning of exploring (and tasting your way through!) the Born neighborhood, it’s time to head towards the fishermen’s district of Barceloneta! At our first Barceloneta stop, it’s time to practice the art of the Spanish aperitif! We'll visit a local bodega for a glass of vermouth and Barcelona's favorite tapa: the bomba. Considered by locals to be the only tapa ever invented in Barcelona, we'll share its colorful story with you.
At our last stop, we'll finish strong with a traditional Spanish lunch! You’ll visit a tucked-away restaurant in the fishermen’s district that's been open since the 1950s. Here we'll enjoy some of the best homemade seafood paella in town, paired with fantastic local wine!

Overview
More than many cities in Spain, Barcelona is a melting pot. Influenced over the years by cultures from within Spain and beyond, the dishes that we consider traditional today weren't always part of Barcelona's story. But without them the city wouldn't be the same. On this tour, we'll explore a mix of traditional businesses and the ones that are writing that story today, while we discover the real Barcelona through its food.
- Take an insider tour of a market that's always packed with locals (unlike the Boqueria!)
- Learnby tasting!how Barcelona's current traditional dishes came to be.
- See the local side of two essential Barcelona neighborhoods: el Born and Barceloneta.
- Try paella in one of Barcelona's most iconic spots, and learn to spot an authentic paella!
- Explore the bakeries, bodegas and food shops that are the heart of central Barcelona.

Our tour guide Nika was very knowledgeable about the various districts in Barcelona that she took us through. The food tastings were also great, as well as the cava, vermouth and wine! We would highly recommend this tour.
-
Loved our food tour with Vera! She is very knowledgeable about Barcelona’s (and Spain’s) food history and shared many samples representative of the local area.
-
Ariana did an amazing job at the market and all the little stores and stops and was super helpful, funny, entertaining and engaging. So many of the tastes were amazing at each stop that it the Paella to end was surprisingly bad - not Ariana's fault but it really put bad perspective on otherwise a lovely visit.
-
Strongly recommend this tour, especially for first timers to Barcelona. This is an excellent way to start understanding and experiencing the culture through the lens of culinary encounters. Our guide, Ariana, was exceptional — so knowledgeable and hilarious. Loved every minute!
-
We took the tour with Vera and this was the highlight of our one week trip to Barcelona!!! We are a family of three with one teenager who is a pescatarian and Vera made the tour interesting to our 16 year old and was able to modify some of the food selections to accommodate our daughter. Vera taught us about Barcelona's history and the food of Barcelona and answered all of our questions. We enjoyed our walking tour, the friendliness of the vendors and the sampling of delicious foods!!! We will definitely use Devour Tours again. If you are ever in Barcelona, we highly recommend Vera! Thank you Vera!

Hector combined an amazing food experience with an immersive trip through Barcelona and its incredible history. He was both knowledgeable and personable, and we loved every minute of it.
-
Our tour guide Ariana was fantastic making everyone comfortable and happy. She managed to make sure dietary restrictions were catered for and our minds and bellies were fed while strolling through the old town.
-
The content and pacing of this tour was great and our guide Hector was very informative, knowledgeable and fun. He shared so much information on the background of the food, and the history of the locations we visited. We ended up in places we would not have discovered on our own. We even returned to a couple of places we visited the following day, so we were happy we’d booked the tour toward the beginning of our stay. Happy to recommend this tour, and if you end up with Hector as your guide, you’ll definitely be in great hands.
