Know More about this tour

The tour leaves Barcelona at 8:30am and heads straight down to Tarragona, the old Roman Capital.

Our first stop is just past Tarragona where you will discover the impressive Roman Aqueduct (1st century BC) popularly known as 'El Pont del Diable' (The Devil's Bridge) or 'Les Ferreres' Aqueduct. It used to be part of the water supply network of the city and today stands in almost perfect condition.

From the aqueduct we travel back to Tarragona quietly entering the old part of the city through a narrow gateway in the ancient walls. Nowadays, the new city overlaps the site of the ancient Acropolis and during your visit you will see firsthand the surprising coexistence of a Roman past and modern life. Starting at the Archaeological walkway, you will be able to admire the surviving stone walls, wander through the historic old quarter - passing the medieval hospital - before stopping at the Cathedral where you can enjoy the Sunday morning antique market.

From there, you continue down through the old town to discover the Roman Forum and the nearby Roman Circus hidden amidst the urban design. Walk along the underground passageways that held the Circus' stands and come to one of the most popular squares within the old town, Placa de la Font, situated inside the Roman Circus. If you stand very still and close your eyes, you can almost hear the chariots racing by. On this very spot, thousands of years ago on, perhaps on the very same day of the week, the Roman capital of the Iberian Peninsula came alive in all of its bloody glory.

And last, but certainly not least, enjoy the breathtaking seaview over the Roman amphitheater and imagine gladiators battling each other to the death! It's a poignant moment to stand on the same dusty ground that bore witness to countless scenes of sacrifice and passion. Perhaps most fascinating of all is the Christian church built in the middle of the stage out of the very same blocks that were used in their amphitheater.

At 12.30 we leave Tarragona and stop briefly at Roc de Sant Gaieta, an intimate little village built on the rocky shoreline. Stroll between its tiny white houses and let your imagination take you away to Ibiza fishing villages built with a touch of Roman-Greco flair.

Arrive at Sitges at around 2:00pm. This once quiet fishing village today boasts a long and sandy Beach, groovy boutiques, and a handful of interesting sights. Sitges has been fashionable since the 1890s. Get lost in its shady side streets and enjoy the Mediterranean atmosphere with its old whitewashed fisherman's houses. After leaving this charming labyrinth, you suddenly find yourself on the seafront. Make a stop in one of the numerous cosmopolitan cafes and restaurants and imagine yourself in St. Tropez. Sitges has dining options to suit every taste and budget. After a leisurely Sunday lunch you might want to head off to one of the 17 beaches the town has to offer.

To start we have a great guide Steven! Our group was delightful. The Roman aqueduct like always very impressive, have the opportunity to cross the entire Roman bridge . Later Tarragona Town has a great view of the Mediterranean seas and the ruins of Roman empire.

Stephen took us on an amazing tour of the various sights of Tarragona (Tarraco) and Sitges, and we were able to have some free time in all areas to do as we wished. One of the highlights was our time at the beach in Sitges, where we enjoyed swimming in the ocean and lounging with the locals. Highly recommended trip! Stephen made our trip A+.

Our small group (8) tour was great! The meeting place was easy to find. Our tour guide (Stephen) was fantastic!!! Friendly and knowledgeable. We had a comfortable drive to Tarragona with interesting bits of information on the way. The guided tour around the different Roman ruins was informative, and we enjoyed our free time in the city. The kids shopped at an outdoor market while we enjoyed cocktails at a cafe. We also enjoyed our beach and cafe time in Sitges, and Stephen treated us to a fantastic view at the end of our time there. 10/10 would recommend!!

What a great adventure! We were intrigued by the presence of Roman ruins all throughout Tarragona, and how well-preserved they were, considering. Tarragona is a very pretty town. Of course, we loved shopping and visiting the beach at Sirges, and the seafood and paella were great! We walked straight into the sea without stopping, it was so refreshing and not at all cold. We highly recommend this tour and this tour group. I apologize but I forget the name of my wonderful tour guide from Ireland, but he was amazing!!

Loved Tarragona! Our guide, Sergei was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable of the history of the city and took the time to explain it to the group. We were allowed ample time to see things on our own as well. Tour could have been improved by allowing more time in Tarragona! Sitges is a charming sea side town with plenty of shopping and restaurants. Sergei did an excellent job of explaining the various options and the history behind the town as well.

Amazing tour with "Arno". Perfect guide for all my nerdy questions about Roman architecture, he studied archeology so well suited for the task. If you're into Roman history this was a cool tour, and finishing it with drinks on the beach was the ultimate way to end the day.

Tarragona was fantastic, lots of history in a compact area to see. However Stiges and the other random town they stopped at are simply not that enjoyable in the Fall. If you can't enjoy the beach- there is not much to do there. Lots of free time in both locations, which IMO means if you want to go there, hop on the train and do it, no need to tour.

The tour was in place of a tour we missed do to not getting to correct meeting point in foreign city. We had used the previous day and had a good experience. The tour we missed put a damper on our trip. My recommendation is reserve the tour but pay when you arrive if that's possible. The tour company rep who we met after missing our trip was only able to say show up the next day and we may possibly be able to get you on tour if spot opens up. No refund or lets book you into the next day. We were not thrilled and tried to get Viator to refund or rebook trip. But, they were of little help despite trying. We went the next day not knowing what outcome would be. We were fortunate that the tour representative that morning was able to accommodate us into this tour. So, we didn't lose our money. Now, for the real review. Ernesto was our guide. He was knowledgeable. Friendly. The tour was informative. Sights were many and impressive. Just enough talking and exploring. I would do this type of tour again. And that's saying a lot as i am not the tour type of person.

Starting inTarragona we had a comprehensive experience. The sites were amazing and the tour guides level of knowledge of the city was impressive. The only reason I give this tour 3 stars is the Sitges portion of the tour. It was here where the tour guide gave us a few highlights before dropping us off to tour the seaside community on our own for 3 hours. I would of preferred a more intimate and informative escort throughout Sitges closer to the experience in Tarragona. If you are looking for quite time in Sitges to play on the beach or take in the sun on your own this is the tour for you.

Exploring the aqueduct was a highlight of my day. From my latin books on roman history to real life. Very cool! Also enjoyed Tarragona but would have loved more time there compared to Stiges since I had not planned on going to the beach but truly overall a great trip with our wonderful guide Steven.
