Know More about this tour

Leave your Rome hotel and head to the hills of Castelli Romani, the Lazio region’s easy-on-the-eye winemaking area. While its name hints at an abundance of Roman castles, Castelli Romani is actually a collection of 13 extremely scenic villages in the Alban Hills, punctuated by volcanic lakes and secluded valleys.

Head on to the hamlet of Monte Porzio Catone, and visit Santa Benedetta – the oldest winery in Castelli Romani. On a tour of the rustic estate, hear how it was once a convent, and learn about the winemaking traditions that have been passed down by generations of the Benedetti family.

At this secluded little spot, sit down for your wine-tasting session, sampling three important Santa Benedetta wines – complexus, gigi and tre vecchie. Soak up the wine with a plate of local delicacies, including the winery’s extra virgin olive oil, bruschetta (pane di Lariano, an aromatic, crusty white bread), cheeses and cured meats.

After relaxing at the estate, enjoying the fine wine, food and great company, your guide will drive you back to your Rome hotel.

  • Really enjoyed this experience very much. The driver that picked us up was right on time, and the drive was a good way to see the outside part of Rome. The only negative I would note, is that our guide, who was absolutely wonderful and very informative, he still had to take care of customers and even a couple who came for a small tour. We very much enjoyed the food paring and the wine was very good, but we were left alone more than we should have been. We ended up drinking more wine, but really wish we could have had a bit more attention.

  • Good tour, nice walk through the vineyard and hearing the story of how it's been in the same family for years. Loved the tasting room...lots of pictures of historical value of the area. The only disappointment was that if you weren't buying wine/olive oil, the owner was kind of dismissive. Overall, nice stop.

  • Our driver was polite and professional and the guide at the vineyard was pleasant, however we were disappointed overall with this tour. We were driven along the highway and did not see any quaint Italian villages as expected. The wine tasting was interesting but the tour was not worth the expense.

  • Car service was prompt and comfortable. Winery was beautiful and peaceful. Wine was fantasic and the tour guide was fun and informative. Drive seemed brief and it was nice to chat with the other couple. Walked away happy and jealous I don and #39;t live there.

  • My wife and I had a wonderful visit to the winery !! We were looking for a short trip on our last day in Rome to fill out our schedule and allow us to rest a bit after a full week of walking among ancient ruins and museums and this visit was just what we needed!! Our driver- Virginio- went out of his way to help us address some monetary exchange issues that required us to go into the city and he pointed out and explained several sites enroute that we had not seen . Then the folks at the winery!! All were first class- gave us the history on the location, filled us with knowledge of growing grapes and olives and producing wines and the wine sampling was fantastic and relaxing!! They even helped us prepare the things we bought to pack in our suitcases and you can be certain that when we get home to Texas that we will sample them with our neighbors and place an Email order for some more and maybe even get the recipe for the wonderful pastry they served . Great experience and recommend it to anyone !!

  • This was a fantastic tour! Santa Benedetta is beautiful and the wines were great, Getulio was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the winery. I would definitely recommend this tour!

  • This trip was amazing! We had a private van take us to the Vineyard which was such a nice surprise. The driver was so friendly and catered to our needs. He stopped so that we could take pictures of the mountainside. He took pictures of us. He then waited while we did the tour. The gentleman that gave us the tour of the vineyard was fantastic. We had a nice private tour followed by wine, cheese and meats that are paired with the wines. He explained to us the history of the vineyard and how wine is made. He also taught us how to taste and smell the wine. We then stopped off at a gelato shop on our way back. This was one of our favorite parts of the trip! All of the staff was so friendly :

  • Had a fabulous tour of the Benedetta Winery - our host was informative, friendly and welcoming. And the wines we sampled were exceptional!

Price was a bit too steep for a tour of one winery though the drive there is scenic but it's not that long from where we started in Rome.

  • Amazing. Best wine and bruschetta we had in Italy. Worth every penny.

  • Let me explain the 4 stars, especially since 4 stars is a departure from the other 5 star reviews here. First, as others have noted, this is not so much a tour as it is transportation to and from the winery, and the winery experience. Our driver was a very prompt and courteous, just like most Italians. That is one great thing about Italy. Everyone is so gracious.
Gratzi? Prego! Gratzi mille? Preeeegggggoooo! Never gets tired.
Unfortunately, our driver, unlike many Italians, spoke little English, so the drive was just that, a drive. Not a tour of the countryside. Transportation.
Once you get to the winery about 1 hour away that changes. Alberto and his staff his friends and children are fine English speakers. We spent about 2 hours on the grounds, a former convent, enjoying the scenery among the hills on the outskirts of Rome, smelling the smells of spring, and of course tasting wine. Expect much more than any Napa or Sonoma experience. Alberto will explain it all down to the smallest minutiae of the vines, the soil, and his family's history working the vineyards and olive orchards, while you sample full bottles of whites Frascati and reds A blend? Or maybe 100 merlot? Maybe both?, while you eat toasted foccacia drenched in fragrant olive oil, salamis, pecorino romano, bruschetta, etc. etc. etc.
Once the tasting bottles have been emptied, guess what? The standard offer of a mixed case with free shipping, which is good is offered. You have just quaffed at least one full bottle of wine. Are you really going to say no, especially at 1.15 to 1 Euro? I predict you will capitulate, as I did, and look forward to the case arriving at the front door and hope that you are there to receive it so that your spouse, under age children, or drinking age children, don't open it first and deprive you of the experience.
So, that's basically it. Something seemed to be missing. Not sure what. Would I go again? With friends, yes. Ciao!
