Enjoy a tour of the LBJ Ranch, located along the picturesque Pedernales River.
During your tour, you will discover how the German migration of the 1840s and 1850s influenced the development of this picturesque area. You will hear about the role of the Texas cowboy and the great cattle drives from South Texas to mid-western markets, and you'll learn about the legacies of both LBJ Americas 36th President and Lady Bird, his beloved wife.
We will stop for a break in Johnson City at the National Park Services Visitor Center and Boyhood Home of President LBJ.
After our brief stop in Johnson City, we will head west to tour the beautiful LBJ Ranch and Texas White House on the Pedernales River.
After the LBJ Ranch, we will head further west and discuss the development of the Texas wine industry as we drive through Texas vineyards on our way to the old German town of Fredericksburg, where you will have 1 to 2 hours of time on your own. If you prefer, you can shop and eat lunch at an authentic German Biergarten or visit one of the many wine tasting rooms. You can visit the Nimitz Museum & National Museum of the Pacific War. This Fredericksburg part of the tour is flexible, so you can do whatever pleases you!
From Fredericksburg, we will drive past more vineyards on our way to legendary Luckenbach, Texas, where "everybody is somebody." We will stop and take in the storied musical history of the colorful town of Luckenbach, made world-famous by Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P Nunn, Hondo Crouch, and many more artists and colorful characters.

It was a fun time. The tour guide Ray was knowledgeable and did a wonderful job of sharing his knowledge. He was very friendly and had a good sense of humor.

One of the most enjoyable tours to date. Gary was knowledgeable and professional. Recommend this tour as long as you have Gary!

  • 20-Nov-2019

Our driver/guide, Gary B, was knowledgeable, prompt and courteous. Having lived in the area, he was able to give us inside information. Trip is well worth the price

Ray the guide was very helpful and informative, he kept the group busy and entertained the whole time.

For the most part really enjoyed the tour., Our driver Gary was great, very informative and helpful. But wish that we could have been able to tour the insides of LBJ's boyhood home and the Texas White House. The boyhood home said that it started tours at 10 and they still hadn't opened by 11. We weren't given enough time even to watch a movie at the museum. Not well planned. Really enjoyed seeing the longhorn cattle up close. Also enjoyed our visit to Fredericksburg, very charming and great food.

  • 30-Sep-2019

Full day but we saw a lot with a terrific guide, Gary, a real Texas cowboy who was a true delight--great stories and first hand information. The tour combined history, with culture and even a wine-tasting.

  • 19-Apr-2019

Much, much better then I thought it would be. I learned so much. I would recommend this to everyone. Ask for Dora, she was absolutely awesome.

  • 03-Apr-2019

This trip sounded great--LBJs childhood home, his ranch, Hill Country, etc. However, driving to the tour companies office and sitting in the parking lot for 15 minutes wasn't on the itinerary so the guide could pick up what she called "audio/visual equipment". That wasted time compromised our time at LBJs childhood home that the tour guide neglected to make reservations for us to tour. Yep, we were only allowed to walk quickly around the outside because another group had booked it. Then we rushed off to the ranch, which was very impressive. We couldn't go in because of safety issues, but we knew that ahead of time. We were rushed through the tour because we had to get to Fredricksburg for a 2 hour lunch break. It would have been better to spend more time at the LBJ sites!

Hill country was beautiful to see, but we were subjected to an audio narration that sounded awful and was either too loud or garbled! It was more annoying that beneficial! When the guide did speak, she was reading it out of a binder and didn't seem to know what she was talking about.

Even though we got back an hour late, it seemed like we were shortchanged. Viator should offer an LBJ experience along with Hill Country, but not with Luckenbach and a winery. It was too much and everything was rushed. On top of that, the guide let us down with not being prepared and not making reservations for the childhood home tour. Overall, what should have been great was rather disappointing.
