Know More about this tour

From a nondescript village, Shimla rose to become the 'summer capital' of the British bureaucracy in India. The colonial government was enticed by the cities salubrious character and the break that it provided from the sweltering summer of Delhi. Today, Shimla is the capital of the state of Himachal Pradesh and continues to echo its colonial significance.

In this guided tour of Shimla, you will visit the Viceregal Lodge (closed on Mondays), the State Museum and Library (closed on Mondays) and the Jakhoo temple.

The Jakhoo Temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is situated on Jakhoo Hill which is the towns highest peak, providing a vantage point for Shimlas famed views.

The Institute of Advanced Studies is housed in the erstwhile Viceregal Lodge which was constructed in 1884-88 during the tenure of Lord Dufferin. An intimidating structure on the summer hill, it is built of Himalayan grey stone in the English Renaissance style and has extensive gardens.

The Himachal State Museum houses twelve galleries. In all of these, a significant effort has been made to capture the essence of hill-art and the cultural wealth of the state.
