Know More about this tour

Your tour starts by skipping the lines to walk directly into the Catacombs. This vast, underground cemetery is composed of miles of underground tunnels lined with the skulls and bones of some 6 million Parisians. In the company of a local expert guide and a small group of 20 people or fewer you’ll explore this unbelievable city of the dead where each room reveals ever more ornate and macabre bone decorations.

Along the way, you’ll hear the unbelievable story of how the catacombs were built and the massive project that was undertaken to move bones from around the city to this point. Your special-access status means the guards will also open gates just for your group, letting you into areas like a secret chapel ornately decorated with skulls and femurs.

Believe it or not, the Paris Catacombs are just as much a symbol of city at Notre Dame or the Eiffel Tower. They contain bones representing some 2,000 years of history and their construction was a unique civil engineering project that helped give rise to the modern city. If you want to see a different and completely surprising side of the City of Lights, this is the perfect place to start.

  • Really great tour of the Catacombs and our tour guide Ferret was wonderful. He was prompt, attentive to the group, knowledgeable and entertaining. I would highly recommend this tour.

  • Our tour guide -- Charley -- was absolutely fantastic. He was animated, knowledgeable, and precise in his discussion of the catacombs, its history, and its sometime unusual uses now. We have been to Paris many times, but this was the first time our family made it to the Catacombs. We are all glad we did, and very glad that Charley led the way!

  • Terrific guide!!!

  • This tour was probably our favorite part of our trip to Paris. Our tour guide, Charlie, was fantastic. He was funny, engaging, and explained the history in a way that was accessible to all. Hearing him explain the history really added to the experience, and I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if I was just listening to the audio tour. We also loved getting to see parts of the Catacombs closed to the general public, and skipping the 3 hour line in the 98 degree weather was amazing. I highly recommend this tour.

  • This tour was both fascinating and educational - we learned so much about the history of Paris and our guide, Ferret, was the best! He knew everything about the catacombs, history of Paris, and could answer almost anything you asked. I would highly recommend asking for him as your guide! We loved this tour and our guide!

  • Great guide, worth it!

  • I really liked this tour. Going into the catacombs was something I was really excited to do. Our host was very knowledgable and spoke very good English. He even let me come along on the next tour to Pere Lachaise cemetery and just paid the difference. One thing I will say though for anyone expecting the beautiful and elaborate bone formations you see online: they're no longer there. It's pretty much just boned stacked in simple formations. Still cool, but I was really expecting something different from what I saw online. It isn't this tours fault at all! Just letting you guys know.

  • Great and informative tour from Alberto.
    A must do !

  • Highly recommended. The tour guide I wish I got his full name was amazing and very informative. Never would have thought the catacombs held remains more than 3x the current population of Paris right now!
