Overview

Ever imagined yourself walking through a medieval village thats located right in the middle of a city? Join this private guided tour and discover Bucharests Village Museum a time capsule in the heart of an urban jungle. Once enchanted by the folklore and by the eerie looks of the outdoor museum, you will end the tour in style: taste traditional Romanian wines, cheese & dry sausages at one of Bucharest's oldest wine bars located in a century old manor.
The architecture of a country is, perhaps, the most accurate expression of its history (M. Cantacuzino). Therefore, we visit the Village Museum. Once you know the history, you have to understand the culture. Food & wine reflect a country's culture. Yes, that's why we do a wine tasting after the visit at the museum!

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: "Dimitrie Gusti" National Village Museum

Your first stop is at The National Village Museum an open-air reconstruction of the traditional Romanian village.
The architecture of a country is, perhaps, the most accurate expression of its history (M. Cantacuzino). For many older Romanians, entering the National Village museum is like going back to the childhood days spent in the countryside. For everyone else, this is the perfect place to discover the authentic Romanian village, with folklore elements and buildings originating from all historical provinces and going back all the way to the 17th century.
Your private guide will show you the reef-roofed houses of Danube Delta, the simple elegant architecture of Moldavia or Wallachia and the exquisitely wooden carved facades of Transylvanian houses. You can admire steep-roofed peasant homes, thatched barns, log cabins, watermills, windmills, wooden churches, oil presses, road crucifixes and many more. After this stop, youll understand why traditions still survive intact in some Romanian villages, despite countless invasions starting from ancient times (Romans), going through medieval (Mongols, ottomans, Hapsburgs) or modern era (Soviet Union). The perfect answer to this is an old folk saying: people from the country-side form a community while people from the cities form a society.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Old town, Bucharest

The 2nd stop is about wine tasting enjoy local Romanian wines plus traditional cheese & dry sausages in one of the citys oldest wine bars. After the tour at the village museum, your private guide will drive you to the win bar, located right next to Old town.
Romania the worlds 13th largest wine producer with over 2000 years of viticulture tradition. We believe that knowledge of a regions food and wine is intrinsic to understanding its culture. Thus, the next stop is at Bucharests first wine bar, in a century old manor. The traditional architecture, elegant interior and the wine bottles displayed like books on shelves all create a perfect setting for wine tasting.
Whether youre a casual wine drinker or a true connoisseur, youll enjoy yourself as you discover the distinctive terroir of famous Romanian vineyards like Dealu Mare, where the wine is nicknamed liquid gold. Youll be able to taste 4 different types of local wines, along with a plate of traditional cheese & dry sausages.

This was an amazing tour from start to finish. We were very well looked after by Mihai. His historical and cultural knowledge at the Village Museum was impressive and he has an obvious passion for the history of Romania. The wine tasting tour was very enjoyable and, yet again, Mihai’s knowledge of the high quality wines was superb. I highly recommend this tour to others. It is excellent value and a thoroughly enjoyable excursion.

It was a lovely place. We got a discount for being students. The place is well kept and everything is green and fresh. And places were under renovation, But it's a good sign. I definitely recommend it. Go visit village museum. It's like going back in time. There are plenty of huts and houses, churches etc. from all over of Romania of the 19th - 17th century - just in one place.

I booked this tour for myself and a friend as a sideline to our trip to Bucharest as we were attending the Summerwell Festival. Little did I know it would become a highlight of our 5 days. Mihai met us at our hotel and drove us to the Village Museum. From the moment we arrived there his infectious love of Romanian history became apparent. We were totally absorbed in the information and history. The Village museum is - unexpectedly - intriguing. It was delightful to meet locals of the older generation taking great pride in their heritage. The weather was a scorching 36c - but we didn't suffer in the heat as Mihai's excellent commentary kept us from thinking about the heat! He then took us to a private wine tasting at a hidden venue that you would never find otherwise. There we sat for a couple of hours (maybe??? the wine and conversation with Mihai distracted me from realising the real time) tasting amazing Romanian wines (yes - I did say amazing!) and discussing yet more fascinating Romanian history and how Romania is viewed from an outsiders perspective. Thanks to Mihai and his enthusiasm I have returned to the UK and have a knowledge that I have already used when meeting Romanians here - they are so welcoming that I have that understanding. So - its a day trip that I highly reccommend and our 5 days in Bucharest would have been much lesser had we not experienced it. Enjoy!

The tour was great but Emma our tour guide made it that much better! She was so knowledgeable and friendly. If it wasn't for her recommendations we would have missed so many hidden gems in Burcharest. 10/10 would recommend Emma. You can find her on ig: burcharestvibes
