We were given an audio guide and there was no physical guide, just one bus driver. Also there were no tickets for Trakai castle given to us! Not worth it! Rather take an Uber to the castle!
This was a very informative visit. It also was a great weather day- sunny and 20 degrees C. (68 F.). The guide was extremely knowledgeable and imparted significant history throughout the tour.
We took two groups from the town on the bus- one with transportation to the town and the other group to also have the guided castle tour. It took him about 10 minutes to confirm who was supposed to be with him on the castle tour.
I took this tour as a solo traveler. The minibus was a great option to get from Vilnius to Trakai Castle. The meeting location was very easy to find.
I do think the tour guide has room for improvement. I was the first customer on the bus in Vilnius. She asked me to move seats so she could sit in the front. However, 20 minutes later some couple sat in that same seat and she let them stay there. I loathe not being treated equally. Second, on three different occasions on route to the site, the tour guide just waked off without telling us where she was going. So, the group followed her each time. Then, she told us to return because she was just retrieving people. The tour guide thus should provide clearer directions to the group of people, so this misunderstanding doesn't occur. She did provide a nice history on the drive there, she knew the castle very well and provided a detail overview while inside, and she provided a good compilation of fun facts about Vilnius, the people and the country on the return.
The tour is OK in general but very hasty. We left at 11am from Cathedral square. We made two pick-ups from hotels and town hall square and arrived at the parking area in Trakai at noon. We arrived at the castle at 12:20. The guide and tour of the castle was ok and finished at 13:40. However we had to be back on the coach at 14:25 as the driver had to leave at 14:30. There was practically no time left to roam about in the castle and admire the views, or taste local food.
Excellent tour! Helena was extremely knowledgeable and also had a great sense of humor. I learned so much about Lithuanian history.
Very enjoyable and interesting tour - excellent tour guide
I am enjoying Vilnius very much but it was nice to glimpse a little bit more of Lithuania. We were lucky enough to go on a beautiful autumn day when the colours of trees around the lake at Trakai were spectacular. It is a wonderful spot., and the village houses different and interesting from any other country I've visited. Essentially though this is a reconstructed castle and though well done, for me there was little atmosphere inside the castle itself. The guide was informative and pleasant, the journey straightforward. The only slight feedback I would offer that would be easy to fix was more of a welcome from the driver and the guide when we individually got on the bus. A smile and a hello doesn't take much, but none of that happened until the last pickup and we were all on board. A little thing but it would have started the trip in a more friendly and relaxed fashion. Incidentally this trip could have been easily booked in Vilnius at the same price as online. Having said that it is nice to have something planned in advance, and I would recommend the trip.
Great place to visit
The whole trip was wonderful and the quide excellent. Maybe mmore time for people who want to take a boating trip.
