Know More about this tour

Valletta, Maltas capital city, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and elegant cities in Europe. A masterpiece of Baroque architecture, it is one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world, boasting some of Europe's finest palaces and churches, as well as numerous museums.

Following their heroic defense of Malta during the Great Siege of 1565, the Knights of St. John set about constructing a new, impregnable fortress city, named after its founder and hero of the siege, the French Grand Master Jean de Valette. Over the ensuing centuries, the new city was embellished with an impressive array of buildings, designed by some of the best European architects of the era and filled with priceless works of art. Today, Valletta is Maltas main administrative and commercial center. The city is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and European Capital of Culture 2018.

You'll be walking past the most notable sites in Valletta:

The new Parliament building and the ruins of the Royal Opera House
The Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens
The Auberges of Castille and Italy
St. Johns Co-cathedral
The Great Siege Monument
Strait Street
St. Georges Square and the Grand Masters Palace
Piazza Regina and the Bibliotheca Nazionale
Church of St Paul's Shipwreck

  • We found this to be an excellent tour. Matt was our guide and he explained everything very clearly in an easy to follow logical way. His commentary also linked the various stops along the route making it all very interesting
A great introduction through the history of Valetta up to the present day

  • Excellent tour run by a very knowledgeable helpful guide, well worth recommending

  • Outstanding guide with excellent knowledge of the history of Valletta. We were so lucky that there were only 5 of us on the tour. Most other groups were enormous. Colour My Travel ran the tour.

  • If you're looking for a tour that is more in depth, this is the one for you. The tour guide had s thorough knowledge of the history of Valletta. We learnt so much. Excellent tour.

  • Our tour happened to be on the day after the Maltese General Eelction. Not the best time to be walkikng round Valetta but Matthew the tour guide carried on bravely despite having to adapt the tour.

  • Matthew gave us a terrific introduction to Valetta and Malta. The pace was just right and we covered a lot of ground--and history--over three hours. He went in depth in the stories he chose to tell, giving us a real sense of how things happened, rather than just stringing sites together.

  • Matt the tour guide was the best ever he was so knowledgable about Malta and its history and easy to talk to and listen to his English was impeccable and he was so entertaining with it pointing out great places to eat and visit while we were there invaluable tour fantastic
