Know More about this tour
Meet your guide at the entrance to the Royal Gardens in Venice and stroll to Doge's palace, the magnificent Venetian-Gothic building from where the leaders of the former Venetian Republic ruled until the late-18th century. Head inside and explore the grandiose public chambers that the doges lavished with fine art and ornamentation. Masterpieces by Renaissance champions Tintoretto and Veronese adorn the walls and ceilings, framing the palaces grand staircases and arcade statues.
Learn about the extravagant doges as you walk around, and hear of the power and treachery that characterized their reign. Ruling the republic with iron fists, the doges established a network of prisons at the palace so they could keep a close eye on their foes. Wander across the Bridge of sighs, built to connect the palace to the fearsome prisons, and pose for photos against the backdrop of the palace. Your walking tour then finishes outside the palace, leaving you to enjoy a 3-hour break before your next tour starts.
Skip the Line: Small-Group Venice Walking Tour with St Marks Basilica (2 hours):
Leave St Marks Square and set off on your walking tour to discover some of Venices highlights its top attractions and lesser-known sights. Soak up the hustle and bustle of St Marks Square, and head inside St Marks Basilica to admire its interiors. Marvel at the marble floors and ogle the gilded mosaics that blanket the walls and ceilings. The Pala DOro canopy over the high altar dazzles with gold and your guide will explain the Byzantine influences that helped Venice hone its distinctive architectural style.
After 40 minutes approx inside the St Mark's Basilica, head out and set off to discover the canal walkways and pretty bridges that many visitors dont get to see. Stop for photos by San Zaccaria Church and admire its incredible faade with Gothic and Renaissance carvings. As you walk, listen to your guides tales of the city during the days of the Venetian Republic and the many colorful characters that have called Venice home throughout the ages.

The weather was beautiful. There were still a lot of tourists about even in late October. Our guide was obviously passionate and knowledgeable about Venice. It was great being able to skip the queue. It was great getting an overview of Venice through the walking tour as it was our first day in Venice and helped to orientate us.
Guide for Doge's Place was so pleasant and informative. We saw and learned so much. St. Mark's guide provided historical insights on building and art.
This was an interesting tour, our guide Andrea was very informative and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the experience much more with the background info than if we went alone. Highly recommended!
Both of our tours were with knowledgeable guides who were informative and helpful.
They gave us a flavor of the history and the happenings then.
Excellent! We had 2 different guides (Barbera for Doges palace and Andrea fir Basilica). Both were highly engaging and entertaining. Their knowledge and passion for their locale showed throughout. Highly recommended, bypassing queues and nice small groups. Thank you both!
We had 2 different guides for this excursion. One for Doge Palace and another for St. Mark's. They were both very knowledgeable and informative. I highly recommend this tour. We did small group and it is well worth it.
The Doge's palace tour was interesting. Our guide was very good and entertaining. The St. Mark's cathedral visit was okay. The guide was good. The Venice walking tour was a waste. They showed us the Opera house and the Rialto bridge- which you can visit yourself.
Our tour guide (iridis - spelling?) was outstanding. The history and knowledge shared was excellent. She was engaged and passionate on what she was presenting. St. Marks is definitely a must see. The architecture and different ages from Roman to gothic to renaissance to Byzantine was just stunning.
Venice is beautiful that is a given, but a tour depends on guides and ours were excellent - recommended
Loved the tour of the Doge's Palace. Beautiful building and the guide was wonderful. St Mark's Basilica was not what I was expecting. It was dark and photos were not allowed. Loved Venice!
