Stop At: Gallerie dell'accademia, Veneto
Spend a leisurely 2 hours exploring the world-renowned highlights and tucked-away delights of Venice. Choose from a morning or afternoon departure to suit your schedule, and then meet your guide in central Venice near the Accademia Bridge.
Follow your expert, English-speaking guide through the quieter streets and piazzas of Venice. As you walk, your guide will captivate you with histories of CaDario, the cursed (and possibly haunted) house whose owners have continuously met untimely and often suspicious deaths. Youll learn why music schools around the world are called conservatories at Fondamenta degli Incurabili, the hospital where monks took orphans from the streets and trained them as nurses and world-famous musicians. And at Redentore Church, your guide will help you to imagine the huge festivals that once flowed from here to Piazza San Marco, gondolas filling every inch of the canals for huge firework shows.
Along with local legends, youll hear some tales of familiar characters. Youll see Harrys Bar across the canal where Ernest Hemingway once kicked back after a long day of writing. Youll see the home of Peggy guggenheim, the heiress who lost her father to the Titanic but gained the means to build one of the worlds most interesting art collections. (Back in her day Peggy used to scandalize the locals by sunbathing naked on her roof and parading around town with a pack of tiny dogs on leashes.)
Ever heard of Othello? Youll see the house where Desdemona supposedly lived before her tale was transcribed by an Italian author and stolen by a man called William Shakespeare. For a romantic finish to your tour, climb aboard a classic Venetian gondola and enjoy a 35-minute ride through the citys famed canals. As your expert gondolier navigates the watery ways, soak up the passing sights of historic palaces and homes that line the canals, and get a glimpse into daily life in this magical city.

Fantastic tour although the weather turned so we couldn't take a Gondola ride. Either way it was a delight to learn about Venice and it's history. Beautiful architecture and a city worth visiting!

If you're looking for a more romantic experience of the gondola ride I would not recommend this tour.
-
Very nice guide, a lot of walking. Loved the gondola ride. Learned some interesting facts about Venice.
-
Really interesting tour that took us away from the larger, more crowded tourist areas of Venice. Our guide was excellent and informative, and the gondola ride was the icing on the cake. Loved it.
-
Very Informative, passionate tour which we learnt a lot. Ending on a sunset gondola ride, who could ask for more?! RECOMMENDED!!!
-
Tour guide was very knowledgeable! We learned a lot! The Gondola Ride is the highlight just make sure to get a good seat.
-
Our tour guide was great. I recommend this tour just to see the old Venice and hear the stories about how Venice came to be. The gondola ride as ok, you share with others which was ok but you had to ask the gondola driver questions to get any type of spoken word about what you are seeing. The evening tour is in the dark after the sun sets and it was nice tat the streets had few people on them but I think the day tour would have been better to see the sites clearer.
-
Elizabeta was amazing and so nice to get her view of Venice as a Venician. The gondola was short and packed and kinda scary. I recommend this tour because of Elizabeta and her knowledge of Venice and her lovely stories and getting a glimpse of real-life there instead of the disney-land areas of tourist-ville.
-
The Gondola ride was a disappointment. I knew that we would be in a Gondola with four other people, but the route that was taken was very plain and not very many lights. The tour guide on the walking tour was great. She took us on the backstreets of Venice by the Academia bridge. She had great knowledge of Venice. The next day we took the route of the tour in the daylight so we had a different perspective.

This was a great tour to give you a few hidden gems as the tour states. Venice is an amazing city and Franka did a great job not only explaining some of the history of the city but linking it to notable names to bring even more intrigue to the tour. So...the hidden gems portion of the tour was great. The gondola ride seemed like it might have been cut short by a few minutes and when it's a 30 minute ride...every minute counts. I would recommend this tour!
