Know More about this tour

Together with your guide, you'll walk to the RER train station to make the 30-minute trip by train to Versailles. Once in Versailles, you will pick up your bike at at an office just 5 minutes from the Palace of Versailles. The first of many highlights on this active day out is a visit to Versailles' village market to buy baguettes, cheese, ham, wine and whatever else you desire for your delicious picnic lunch in Versailles' gardens. These picnic provisions are purchased at your own expense.

The next highlight today is a bike ride through the gardens behind Versailles palace. You'll leave foot visitors behind on your tour of the palace by bicycle, as visitors on foot can visit only a small fraction of the palace gardens. Versailles' gardens and forests are crisscrossed by a network of fantastic trails and tree-lined paths, so bring your camera for picture-perfect views in every direction.

Arriving at the far end of the Grand Canal, you'll settle down for a picnic in the exact spot where Louis XIV, XV and XVI ate in order to marvel at their palace. Relax on the grass in peace where only your cycling group will be able to easily reach this end of the Grand Canal.

After lunch, pedal back towards the palace itself for an unforgettable view into the lives of the French monarchy before their removal from power by the Revolution in 1789. You'll visit the Hall of Mirrors (site of the treaty ending World War I), the King's State Apartments and the amazing King's Chapel (audio guide available). • Superb day - the best way to see and understand Versailles. Terrific guide, well planned excellent day outing!

  • Loved this trip - a gem!

  • The tour was too long. We started at 9:00am and got to Versailles at 4:30 to tour it. The tour had a couple with a 3 and 5 year old with them. This was dangerous for the kids on bikes with their parents. I suggest only children 8 or older be allowed. The guide Thomas was great. French market fun.

  • The tour and the guide were both amazing! This was the second time in two years that I have done the tour. It will be one of your best days in Paris. Highly recommend!

  • Best tour of our trip! Our guide was GREAT!!! This is by far the best way to see Versailles. We saw so much!!! Entire tour was filled with seeing beautiful sites.

  • We had an amazing experience. I am so glad that we booked this tour. I was worried about the cycling as haven't ridden a bike for since I can't remember when, but the ride is pretty easy. The markets are great - we went back after the tour and bought our dinner to take back to our apartment. Our Australian tour guide Cameron was helpful, fun, approachable and worked really hard to ensure that everyone was on track and OK as we rode the different streets to get to our destination. Thoroughly recommend.

  • Only way to see Versailles! Very knowledgeable and organized tour. We went to a market, saw the city of Versailles, the church, gardens, Marie Antoinettes residence and of course the palace.

  • Had a great time with my fellow bikers and tour guide Nick. The farmers market we went to was just amazing and we bought wine, cheese, baguettes etc. it was the best way to enjoy Versailles grounds and after you get to visit castle and gardens. The only glitch was that I wasn't aware I'd have to travel back on my own by train. For people who never take trains/subways it can be intimidating. I did find my way back and fortunately found another couple traveling back from tour. Great day and biking was effortless and smooth

  • A great biking tour, and Nick's ability to tell stories was really what made this tour worth taking. His knowledge and presentation style were both fantastic and well done. He actually made history interesting! My only caveat, this tour is geared toward better riders, however, and there were a few of us who had a hard time keeping up. Even with breaks for information, this ride is better suited to folks who bike regularly, and not the casual biker.

  • We loved the bike riding part of the journey and enjoyed the picnic. The guide was a little strident for my taste, but he had a large group to manage, so maybe that's why he was a bit terse.
