Know More about this tour

Your Viator Exclusive tour begins with morning pickup from your Cancun hotel. A meal will be provided (breakfast OR lunch, depending on the season)

Arriving at Chichen Itza, join your specialized guide for an in-depth tour of the site, and enjoy the tranquility of your early-morning visit before the crowds arrive.

Throughout the trip, your archaeological guide’s commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Even today, it is still considered a sacred site by the Yucatán peninsula’s Maya population.

Like many of ancient Mexico’s cities, the site was abandoned, and its ruins were hidden by jungle. Hear how the site was discovered and unearthed by archaeologists, gaining UNESCO protection and considered today one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases.

Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan. Hear how a serpent of light appears to wriggle its way down the temple’s stairways on the spring and fall equinoxes.

Return to your hotel at around 3pm. With this Viator Exclusive, your early morning trip to Chichen Itza helps you to beat the crowds so you can enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at your own leisure!

  • Marco was an amazing tour guide. Really learned about Chichen Itza and took us to delicious lunch at a Mayan resort. Doing the earlier tour was definitely a good idea because it gets really hot and crowded. I strongly suggest going early as it opens rather then much later in the day. You arrive back to your hotel around 4ish. Transport was easy, the ride was easy, the tour was amazing, and the lunch was great. Amazing tour all around.

  • It's really annoying to know that they won't pick you up from the hotel just one day before the tour, although they claimed hotel pick up on the website and they don't allow you to cancel the trip already. Think about it is very early morning, e.g. before 5:00am, you have to walk to the location they pick your up. I argued with the local tour organizer and tell them my two kids will join the tour with me but they still refused to pick up at hotel. The early accessing to the park is Ok, but the tour doesn't give your more time to see the whole area. On the way back, they spent 1 hr in the stores to sell their goods.

  • Highly experienced and knowledgeable guide, we definitely learned a lot.
The early entry helped us to get in before the crowd so we appreciate this arrangement.

  • This tour was good, but not great.
Frank, the tour guide, was very knowledgeable about Mayan culture and explained the ruins and their meaning in an interesting manner.

The other parts of the tour. While it was advertised that the tour would pick us up at the resort, we actually had to leave the resort and walk through Cancun at 5 a.m. to meet the bus. The tour was much larger than expected, with approximately 60 people in the group. There is an awkward part of the tour where you are dropped off at a souvenir store and are made to wander the store for 20 minutes.

  • This would have been a great trip but the travel arrangements spoiled it. We are an elderly couple and picked this trip because of the reviews. Your advert said we would be back at our hotel at 3.00pm. Instead it was almost 6.00pm before we returned. Almost 3 hours longer than promised. The delay was not due to heavy traffic but poor tour management. We were picked ap at 5.10 as planned and with two comfort breaks we arrived in chicken ittza at 9.00 we had a two hour tour which was very enjoyable .frank was very knowledgable. We then had one hour free time which we did not need. Most of the guests were hanging aroun for more than 30mins we then went to lunch and had to wait 30mins for food. The time was meant to be spent buying expensive souvenirs in the local shop. Again most people were just hanging around waiting for lunch. After lunch we along with four other couples were transferred to a mini bus and driven back via Tulum. The first couple were dropped off near Tulum and the second at Playa Del Carmrn. At this point it was dies overhead that the third couple were staying at the Hotel Riu near Tulum, we then had to detour back to their hotel.
This detour added some 30 miles to our return journey plus the detour not to speak of long distances in gated communities. We spent almost four hours on the return journey with no comfort breaks. I can say that your description of the tour was totally misleading and had I knowm the true facts I would not have booked with you

  • I thought this tour was great! Getting there early was a huge benefit to avoid crowds, as we soon realized as we were exiting the area in the early afternoon. There are plenty of opportunities for restroom breaks on the long drive to the site. For the price you pay, it's well worth the experience the tour itself, the drive, the lunch, etc. My only feedback is that I think the tour guides are kind of in a rush when entering/exiting the venue so it makes it hard to follow them unless you walk pretty quickly, but it wasn't a big deal. Also, the Mayan birthday calendar that's hawked on the bus ride was a bit underwhelming in my opinion, but other people seemed to really like them.

  • This tour was amazing! Doing the early trip was well worth it. Carlos the driver was extremely friendly and Marco are tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and Passionate. I would Highly recommend this Tour and have already to anybody. We learned so much and had an unforgettable time.

  • Veryyy nice.. thanx Marco!

  • This tour was fantastic! Learnt so much and paying that little bit extra to be the first few people into the site is well worth it! Marco was an absolute hero, such a great, funny and knowledgeable guide!
Honestly would recommend this to anyone and everyone, easily in the top 5 of best things ever.

  • Super Frank was wonderful. He provided information in a concise and clear manner that was very entertaining. It was also very apparent that behind his explanations there was a vast amount of knowledge and passion. He was excellent at timing his talks and directing our attention to significant aspects. I also very much appreciated the lunch and the visit to the Mayan Co-op. I love the ability to purchase directly from the artists and have verification of the authenticity of the material. This is a must trip.
