Throughout the trip, your archaeological guides commentary provides essential background to the well-preserved site of Chichen Itza. Learn how this large pre-Colombian city played an important role in Mayan civilization from around A.D. 600 to 1200, and remained a center of worship and pilgrimage until the arrival of the Spanish. Your guide will explain the philosophy, cosmology and mythology behind this ancient site, such as the meaning of the stone carvings, pyramids, platforms, ball courts and staircases.

Visit the Observatory, Temple of the Jaguars, Temple of the Warriors and of course the famous El Castillo, also known as the Temple of Kukulkan. Hear how a serpent of light appears to wriggle its way down the temples stairways on the spring and fall equinoxes.

  • Tour was outstanding. Our guide amazing with the local lore and history. We truly enjoyed the day.
    Thanks

  • We were picked up on time at our hotel at 5:20am in the morning and our bus was the first one to arrive at Chichen Itza. Not much to see en-route to Chichen Itza so we were gald we took this tour instead of driving ourselves. Both my wife and I were able to take a nap on the 2.5 hours trip. Having early access definitely has its benefits...weather is not as hot, we are able to take plenty of good photos. Like a few other reviews on this site...I was first skeptical on the tour description of a private Archaeologist. But my skepticism was unfounded. Marco, our private tour guide and Archaeologist was knowledgeable, professional and passionate about the Mayan civilization and history. I have learned interesting facts from Macro that made this trip so much more fun and exciting. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Chichen Itza for the first time. I hope you too, will have Marco as your Private Archaeologist.

  • In a word WOW for the trip and your team was superlative!

  • My wife and I were quite interested in seeing the Mayan Pyramid and other structures. I also brought 2 nieces and a nephew along, ages 18-24. All five of us enjoyed this trip more than we ever expected. We took the early morning option with a Private Archelogist. By all means, take the early morning option with private Archelogist option! A bus picked us up at about 6AM at our resort. Marco was our Archelogist. Marco gave us a very good briefing about the Mayan civilization before arriving at Chichen Itza. We visited the major historic structures throughout the area. Marco told us many interesting facts about what used to happen here. He was very knowledgable about the amazing accoustic properties of these structures as well as telling us what the wall carvings were depicting. Facinating stuff. I was astounded by what we learned. The Mayans were pretty incredible people. I felt we got a very good value for my money. I highly recommend this tour for everyone. I observed other tourist groups and they were not getting any information like Marco was giving us. Also, if you go later in the day, you'll be packed in with hundreds of other tourist and Chichen Itza can get really hot in the summer months. We went in early February, it was nice. I can't express enough how much we enjoyed this tour and that it was such a great value. We will do it again next time.

  • Frank is great, which other reviews have elaborated and I have nothing to add, hands down. The one star off is about the tour itself. It's almost 12 hours - similar to other trips that include the cenote. Pick-up 5:30 am westin lagunamar - circle around hotel zone to pick up other tourists, total number 42 ppl not 20ish as described, the bus is big so it's OK - start off to chichen itza around 7 am - restroom stop 8 am ish - arrive at chichen itza at 9 am. Three-hour tour no need to rent the umbrella cuz you'll find shaded area to rest. Make sure you get the souvenirs here - do negotiate price, usually 1/3 of asking price, depends though. Leave chichen itza 12:15 and arrive at a souvenir shopping and lunch buffet 10 mins later. They give you 30 min to do shopping here - 3X more expensive than chichen itza : Food is OK, drink not included though not too bad, 39 peso for juice, 40 peso for coors light. Some dance show. Head back to hotel zone 3 pm ish and back in hotel at 5 pm. I originally thought we would be back around 2 or 3 pm though. So be prepared it's a long day.

  • Great tour to Chichen Itza, with a very experienced and knowledgeable guide. It's well worth getting there early, before the heat and crowds become overwhelming. Lunch afterwards, and the tourist trap shop were much less good.

  • Awesome! Of all the cool things we saw, did, and ate in Cancun this was the best. Marco was our guide and was the biggest part of why this tour was so great. The site and culture are absolutely fascinating, and Marco's deep knowledge brought it alive for us. Even the lunch they provided was fantastic. I can't recommend this tour highly enough. I'll likely go again next time in Cancun. Don't miss this one.

  • Tour itself is good, very informative but a lot of wasted time in getting there and back from Cancun. Bus very cramped with no leg room and given that we were in there for three hours each way it was very painful. Very early start but waiting for half an hour from when we were told to meet them In the lobby and when it's 0530 that you are waiting from and you have been up since 0445 it is really annoying. There was no apology and we had experienced moments of panic wondering whether they were coming to pick us up. Phone calls to the company were not picked up. Didn't get to Chichen Itza till 0930 am. Two and a half hours at Chichen itza only. Then lunch which was quite good. Back at the hotel at 1830. A very long day!

  • Fantastic tour! My group said, hands down, the best tour and tour guide they have ever had! The early access is necessary. When we arrived we were some of the first people at the site, but when we were leaving the place was as packed as Disneyland! It's such a fantastic and historic site, being able to see it without throngs of other tourists bumping into you just makes it that much more magical. Plus you can really feel the history seeping from the stones when you're standing there in awe. That said, our guide Marco was out of this world amazing! He was so well versed on the site and the people and knew how to turn all the facts and history into an engaging and stimulating experience. If I could give him 10 starts right now I definitely would. I learned so much from this tour, it was a once in a lifetime kind of experience!

  • We took the early, early tour option. It was so worth the exclusive time, prior to the large crowds. Frank was our guide on the bus and allowed us to sleep 80 of the way and saved his speeches and knowledge to about 1/2 an hour away from Chichen Itza which was nice. He had to say everything thing twice, once in English and once in Spanish. It gave time for some background information. Marco the guide who toured us at the site spoke all in English and the Spanish guests divided into a separate tour which was great! Marco was professionally knowledgeable about the history and archeology with a keen eye. I was very impressed with him! We would highly recommend this tour.
