Overview

See the best of Victoria and its surrounding attractions on this activity-filled day tour! The perfect combination of free time and guided elements, this tour takes you across Vancouver Island’s Saanich Peninsula, from downtown Victoria to Butchart Gardens to the seaside town of Sidney. Know More about this tour

Your Victoria day tour begins at the city’s most famous hotel, the Fairmont Empress, where you’ll meet your tour guide and board a deluxe motor coach.

Drive through the neighborhoods of Chinatown, Beacon Hill Park and Cook Street Village, and visit the Mile 0 monument, where you have a quick photo stop at the beginning of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). Continue your tour to Craigdarroch Castle, a National Historic Site of Canada, where you’ll have a one-hour tour of the beautiful Victorian mansion.

Back on the coach, head to Mt Tolmie, just north of the city, for a photo op of the panoramic views of Victoria and the surrounding area, and then make the one-hour drive to Butchart Gardens, passing through the suburbs of Oak Bay and Saanich.

When you arrive, enjoy a ‘tea on the knee’ box lunch consists of savory sandwiches, homemade sweets and iced tea (see sample menu below). Sit down in a reserved area of the gardens to enjoy your alfresco lunch, and then wander around the gardens at your own pace. A National Historic Site of Canada, Butchart Gardens is home to more than 50 acres (20 hectares) of flowers and other plant life from all over the world. Check out the Japanese Garden, Mediterranean Garden, Rose Garden, Italian Garden and more.

When it’s time to leave Butchart, head just five minutes down the road to either Church & State Wines or Victoria Butterfly Gardens, your choice (they are next door to each other). At Church & State, tour the winery facilities and enjoy a tasting of some of its best Okanagan and Vancouver Island varietals. If you choose the Butterfly Gardens, take a behind-the-scenes tour of the tropical jungle environment, discovering birds, exotic wildlife like poison dart frogs and, of course, fluttering butterflies.

Meet back up with your tour guide on the coach and head to your last stop, the seaside town of Sidney, about 16 miles (26 km) north of Victoria. You have one hour of free time to explore the charming town — known as Sidney-by-the-Sea — at your leisure. Browse the independent shops, buy a snack at the local bakery or wander along the picturesque waterfront (food and activities at your own expense).

Your Victoria sightseeing adventure ends with the 40-minute drive back to the Fairmont Empress Hotel.

  • Excellent tour...

  • This tour was the best !!! Our driver Gary is one in a million !!! Sounds kinda cheesy but he made the day fabulous!! Thanks Gary

  • We had an amazing experience with our guide Dave. Very knowledgeable, friendly willing to go the extra mile kinda guy. My wife and I just enjoyed his company along with a father daughter pair from Ontario, CA. The accommodation was fantastic. We did the Distillers tour in Sidney, BC and was overwhelmed by the great selection of booze. We enjoyed the tasting of various kinds of vodka, whisky etc. Then Dave serve us lunch with the Tea at the Empress lunchbox probable the best lunchbox I ever had in my life.Truly we were blessed with great weather and company in Sidney by the sea part of the tour. I was encourage to know a lot of folks do retire in this quiet picturesque paradise by the sea. We did our tour on a Sunday morning so there was no traffic at all. Dave took us to the scenic route to Butchart Gardens and we took the Wine and Country wine tasting which I highly recommended. Prices for topnotch wine were reasonable.Overall the trip was a great way to start our 7 days in Victoria, BC.

  • Exceeded expectations. Excellent Mercedes van used to transport customers. The driver/guide was Spence. He knew the area well and had many interesting stories to tell. His timing was exquisite as we managed to avoid large crowds and traffic. The box lunch was from the Fairmont Empress Hotel, a real treat for the eyes and taste buds. Highly recommended. Ask if Spence is the guide for your tour.

  • This tour with CVS was everything we could have expected. Chris Nelson was a fantastic guide. As a local who was born in Victoria he knew it's history like the back of his own hand. Our small van was able to travel through the small streets of the city and was very comfortable for the longer rides.

  • We had a good time on this tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We saw lots of things we wouldn't have been able to see by ourselves in just one day. The lunch at noon provided by the Fairmont Empress Hotel was delicious. I would highly recommend this tour.

  • We loved our Victoria in One Day sightseeing tour!! Our guide, Chris, was sooooo knowledgeable and we could never have seen all the sights he showed us on our own. We would definitely recommend Viator!!

  • We enjoyed this tour. However, we were expecting tea at Buschart Gardens. We ended up touring a distillery and having lunch there. It was an interesting tour, but since we had our young daughter with us it wasn't really appropriate for her. We also had trouble hearing the driver after he turned on the air conditioner on the bus. We were allowed 1 1/2 hours for Buschart Gardens which was a quick visit.

  • This tour was more than I expected and I truly enjoyed the knowledge and personality of the guide, Spencer. We saw the Inner Harbor from various vantage points as well as the districts that make up the area around Victoria. We had an unexpected stop at the Victoria Distillery. No one on the tour knew we were stopping there, but it was fun and the tasting was informative. I'm not a drinker, so I didn't taste the goods, but it was still fun to learn how gin, rum and whiskey are made and to watch the other tour members enjoy the sipping. We had lunch here and eating out on the distillery patio was perfect! Beautiful view of the water and the umbrellas were a nice, appreciated cover. I liked touring the gardens and not having a long time to wait to go back. Having a waiting bus is wonderful! The drive around the island was nice. but some of it was tedious as we had to drive some longer distances between points of interest. I enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to adults. I think anyone under 21 might not enjoy its pace or points of interest.

  • A great full day trip!!!!!
