I went on this tour with my Mum on 6 August 2019, and it was excellent! We were impressed by the punctual arrival of the bus, were happy about the small size of the group and were delighted by the beauty of the sights we saw.
Mayerling, Heiligenkreuz and Baden as well as the fascinating landscapes of the Vienna Woods took our breath away.
I would like to specially note the work of the guide: the information he gave was interesting and concise, his command of several languages was impeccable and his time management was excellent. Besides, he was friendly, willingly answered questions and easily gripped the attention of the audience.
Thank you Viator and Vienna Sightseeing, and we're looking forward to new trips with you! -
I love everything about Sissi's life and Mayerling gave me more insight about her family. Our guide gave us very interesting information and I loved it. The Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz, was lovely as well. The seegrotte was a totally different thing from the others sites we visted and for someone who visited natural caves would be a little disappointed. The tour was well organised and overall quite enjoyable.
-
A wonderful way to see the Vienna Woods and get a taste of history of the death of Rudolph and Maria..Unable to take full advantage of the Grotto experience due to too many stairs, but the visiting of the old monestary and several small villages along the way was a treat... Very fine tour guide and safe helpful bus driver..
-
Trip particularly well organised. Pick up from central Vienna managed without fuss. Excellent guide who provided useful commentary in both English and Spanish. I enjoyed the mix of sites we visited from the monastery to the underground gypsum mine. I found the Mayerling story of the Crown Prince somewhat macabre but the setting was well worth the visit

The caves are really interesting, also the abbey...but this tour is too short too much on a rush for me as a tourist interested in art and history.
I would expand this tour as a full day tour to make it better: dedicating more time in Mayerling to be able to read the staff that is there and it is really interesting and I would add a stop-a real STOP- at some point where you can really see and take pictures of the
Liechtenstein castle...even paying a visit to that place or the surroundings of it.This is a tour with a massive historical potential that at the moment is not fully explored.
-
The drive through the woods was gorgeous, and the guide did a good job of explaining what we were seeing. Mayerling was well worth the visit; wish we'd had a little more time there.
-
It is a good way to get out of the city for awhile but disappointing. At Mayerling you saw two small chapels and maybe four rooms with information cards and pictures. At the Abbey you only walked around the outside courtyard.
-
This tour is probably quite pleasant in the summertime. Not so in early spring. Our guide was competent but the tour itself was boring. We had hoped to see the Vienna Woods that inspired a beautiful piece of classical music.
-
Excellent and informative tour of the Vienna Woods. Guide was knowledgeable and presented information well. Very much enjoyed Mayerling and the Cistercian Monastery...the underground cave and lake not as much....but likely for others it might have been the reverse.
-
Heiligenkreuz was stunning! Mayerling and the Seegtotto were interesting from a historical perspective. The setting of Mayerling in early spring n a warm sunny day was beautiful and, although it had a lovely outdoor cafe, Seegrotto inside was an overhyped tourist trap.. People in our group were actually taking photos of the plastic horse displays and Disney movie posters. Reminded me of Rock City in Chattanooga, TN. The cave itself was cool, but what theyve done to the place? Not so much. Guide and bus driver were excellent.
